That season has 30 for 30 written all over it...well as soon as espn starts giving a damn about hockey - Sabresfan-365
I'l give Myers and Stafford this much, they could have help salvage a point or two more in the season to surpass the Coyotes. |

Funny, this all started with us complimenting Kane's play too. - sbroads24

Exactly, they would have been upgrades over Konopka and Benoit, probably worth a handful of points, which would have been enough to overtake AZ. |

That logic basically admits we traded for guys that were worse than the guys everyone couldn't wait to get rid of. - Sabresfan-365
No it doesn't, it says that the most important player in the trade was already done for the season due to injury.
That is his point, and I do believe, like him, that without making that move, the team had an excellent chance of not finishing last. |

Saying that just makes the deal sound worse now. In any case I meant it more as Myers and Stafford being bad. They were dead last when it happened and if it was really a deal about ensuring last place he would have shipped Myers off for the 24th pick when Vancouver offered that in the summer and Stafford for 2nd/3rd rounder. Even with them in the lineup im sure it would have been close but ultimately nobody was worse than us, Arizona was close though. |

For fun, let's go back to February 2015 when the Sabres Jets trade was made.
Take that move back, and the Lehner trade, and then check all the other trades made and come up with ideas on better trades that would have both worked better for the Sabres and been an acceptable trade to the other team.

move the assets for saad instead of kane?
Trade for Raanta instead?
First one alone probably makes you a playoff team.
Edit: Draft picks for Palmieri?
Double edit: really wanted them to sign demers but spot was taken by bogosian |

It's funny glorifying former players on a team that was one of the worst in the modern era of the NHL.
Now, if you want to have a hard on still for Lemeiux and the 1st I can see that but Myers, Stafford and even Armia? |

Holy cow man.
YOU are the one saying they would have ruined the Eichel pick. Aren't YOU glorifying their value?
Jeez, I was the biggest Myers fan here and I don't think he made one iota of a difference in the standings then |

A point or two is not glorifying. You write good fiction to cover your arse, lol
And the reason you won't write it will have made a difference is because it doesn't fit your terrible trade narrative. You are too simple to read. |

I had no idea Palmieri was going to explode like that last year.
That said, he only went for a 2nd and a conditional 3rd, and it's the sort of buy low and hope to get lucky move that getting Derrick Pouilot would be from the Penguins that Broads suggested yesterday.
Everyone will point to the Saad trade as the one.
For Saad, CBJ gave up Dano, who at the time was thought of to have a high ceiling due to his brief NHL play the prior season, and Anismov as the key pieces.
This was also a cap move for the Hawks.
That means the idea of Myers going there was toast. Ditto someone like Ennis.
Would Armia have been looked at it with as much promise as Dano, at that time? Probably not.
Adding in one of the 1st round picks from the 2015 is a no brainer as part of the deal, but what else did they have?
Having just landed Eichel and trading for O'Reilly, would you have included Reinhart in the deal for Saad, knowing he too was going to cost between $5M-$6M?
Would both of the other 2015 first round picks been enough to entice Chicago?
Maybe, but it seems like they needed/wanted at least one NHL player and one NHL ready player.
The first below is the actual trade and the second is my best guess at what it would have taken to beat what they got from CBJ.
To Columbus Blue Jackets Brandon Saad
Michael Paliotta
Alex Broadhurst To Chicago Blackhawks Artem Anisimov
Marko Dano
Jeremy Morin
Corey Tropp
4th round pick in 2016
To Buffalo Sabres Brandon Saad
Michael Paliotta
Alex Broadhurst
To Chicago Blackhawks

Justin Bailey
Marcus Foligno
