Only a Flames fan would be all that surprised by that. And youre right, there are ways of getting out of Gio's deal, but anyone who thinks you can trade him for anything of value is smoking the good Hash. - Larsson_fan
If shea weber and his contract can get you pk subban I think gio still has value in a trade ...thanks for your input tho |

Don't worry your pretty little head over this! You've Lucic contract not to mention the overpayment for 3rd line centre Flopkins! - K-man25
We're not in any sort of cap trouble, we'll be fine...plus Lucic is like 3 or 4 years younger than Gio.
All I'm saying is he can't be traded for anything of value, and that you crybabies will hate him in a few years.hes still an excellent player, but I'll be here in a couple years saying ' I told you so'. |

Unique situation...but Gio isn't Weber. Weber is like Chris Chelios to Gio's Ed Jovonovski. |

Although I can see your point, defence men tend to age a little easier than power forwards. Point being, lucic contract stinks also, and in a few years will hurt more than Gio's. Especially when McDavid signs for 10+, Draisietle 6+ and Flopkins 6 that's a lot of dough for 3 forwards, a broken down, aging Lucic is going to be hard to move.
Lot easier to have a 6.75 gio on the roster.
Ps he's no Wideman, I'm actually liking DW game this year, he's playing tougher and a lot smarter defensively as usual he's a beast in the other teams end. It's like a lot of things in life, hard to change narrow minded people's opinion. Reputation is easy to get but hard to get rid of.
Merry Christmas Jero! Most times you come up with good sh!t, and enjoy your comments. Just don't agree all the time!
Cheers! |

Oh the contradiction that is James Tanner.
"Hockey games just don't turn out fairly all that often" which is his way of saying the team who attempts more shots deserves to win the game most of the time but in reality it doesn't happen all that often. His own statement disproves his own way of thinking.
If goals and wins are a result based stat James, what do you consider shot and shot attempts? Are those process based stats? I would have to argue that they are also result based stats. They are based on the results of actual hockeying. Coaching, systems, matchups, positioning, hockey sense, passing, intensity, teamwork, skating, hand-eye coordination, intimidation, and I could etc. forever here.
I would say that position is one of the most important factors in hockey - just as it is in poker.
James your attempt at thinking hockey at a higher level is admirable and you offer some valuable insights but way too often your attempt stops so unbelievably short of what's really going on in hockey it is astonishing. |

Seems like the wrong thread to be posting this in.
But yeah, Tanner doesn't understand hockey. |

Weber's contract is higher cap and longer term ...gio is no jovo but nice try jero
Gio is compatible to jovo like lucic Is to Kassian |

Canada picking jovo was a terrible choice ...he was a glorified rover |

Actually, Im pretty close in that comparison. Jovo was a top 10 2way defender for a 2 or 3 year stretch in Vancouver, and Gio is just finishing up his 2-3 run in similar fashion. You can try and say Gio is a modern day Brian Leech, Larry Murphy or even Phil Housley...but you would over rating him badly. |

I think he still has another year at least at being the man on the top pairing. He is making DH look pretty good. Best case scenario is he has another 2 years on that top pairing. Eventually he will be a solid 3-4 guy teaching the young up and comers how to play, ape fully one of Fat Rass or Kylington, thats another 2 years.
That last year might look a little ugly but the guy will still be useful.
Webber's contract is an albatross in comparison. |

I suspect that contract may start to look bad at some point but we`re nowhere close to that right now. He`s leading the team and he`s making the top 4 look good. Any long term contract could look bad as some point including some of those hockey gods in Edmonton. |

I agree with this 100%. All I was saying at the beginning of this malarkey was that Gio could not be traded for the sweet package someone suggested earlier. Was never dissing the player, he's great. |

I'm not trying to turn gio into Brian Leetch here ...jovo was a disaster defensively ...but had great offensive skills ...gio makes his partners better and can play defence |

Not for current performance, no. But Klef is a sweet player on a sweet deal. |

World Junior players for each NHL team....5 for the flames, 9 for Philly!

Bit surprised Steel and Senyshyn didn't make the cut for Canada. Both seem like better options than Blake Speers who has played only four games this season. |
