Lol...the Sabres will get better...it just takes longer than most fans think. Everyone said the Oilers should have rebuilt in half the time, and by that logic Colorado, Sabres and Leafs would all be winning conference championships by now. It takes close to 10 years to build a contender, if your starting point is some worthless vets and an empty prospect pool...and no preasure to speed it up.
- Larsson_fan

Shhh, facts have no place here. Because a couple teams did it in 3 or 4 years every team should be able to! As if the Sabres are somehow special. Of (frank)ing course the GM is going to say he's going to do it fast, he's never going to come out and say, "yeah, maybe 5 years from now we'll be in the second round of the playoffs." He'd never get the job.

How he has survived multiple ownerships and now is president of the Sabres as well makes me think he is just a smooth talking salesmen who has way more power than someone with a marketing background should ever have.
- Stripes77

I think you just answered your own question. If he's a smooth talking salesman, he should be able to talk his way into anything.

The Kane trade has been dissected more times than a medical cadaver but the end result got rid of two marginally productive players (Stafford and Meyers) who were good enough to keep us out of last place and therefore, out of the mcdavid/eichel sweepstakes. Overall, I like Kane but I think Meyers would be more beneficial to this team. I don't care at all about Armia, bogo or stafford

Edit: phone auto correct, dammit. Myers

- jcragcrumple

Yes, moving Myers for a player on LTIR was a smart move to get McEichel, and I agree, that appeared to be the plan . Perhaps the step back was a bit further back than you all thought? I dunno...I look at the roster right now and I see 1 good veteran ( RoR) 2 great youngsters (Eichel, Risto) and A smattering of decent young players sprinkled in with ageing veterans. What am I missing? I dont see a team that should be challenging for a playoff spot.

Hey guys long time reader, first time post. Really can't understand what disco is doing with this team there are games where they play well, generate offence, and win. It seems bylsma tells them "good job but I want you to play another way", then we do and we lose. I'd really liKe to see bylsma gone and replaced by a younger guy who is not so set in his ways.

Murray should be given till this time next year to ice a competitive team or he should be gone as well.

We aren't the same as the other teams though. We chose, and boasted about speeding up the process.

Rebuilding started when we traded Paul Gaustad and had 2 1st rounders in 2012. Then 2 1sts in 2013, 2nd overall in 14, and 15, now 8th in 16.

People like to pretend we haven't been rebuilding for 5+ years already

- sbroads24

2012 was only 4 years ago, not only is it not 5+ years, it wasn't even 5 years ago.

Of course you have, and thats where the issues lie . Youre on the same pace as everyone else that rebuilt around a generational talent.7-10 years. All I asked was an example of a team that that tore down a roster and rebuilt in 5 years and was a cup champion. It has never happened, why is that an expectation?
- Larsson_fan

That my friend, is the $64,000 question. And we address it every (frank)ing day in here. So who's the crazy one? The people who think we should be "contenders" this year or next, or the people trying to tell them they're crazy, every day?

Exactly...so another 3 years before playoffs and you will be on pace to have acomplished what all other teams that tore down and rebuilt have done prior to winning the Stanley (frank)ing Cup.

Perhaps some Sabres fams werent as patient to go through a full rebuild as they thought? Or maybe they over achieved last year and filled you with false hope/expectations?

The only way to do it in my opinion is to analyze all of the other successful rebuilds ( the ones that resulted in Cups are the only ones worth looking at). Take the broadest view possible and decide what is a realistic timeline, making allowances for mistakes/injuries/busts and other things that happen everwhere outside the city limits of fantasy land.

I'll say it again.7-10 years of drafting and developement coupled with well timed trades is the norm.

In their eyes they have. The Pens and Hawks are always brought up, because they picked high and then won a Cup in 3 or 4 years. They don't realize/just plain ignore that both those teams were atrocious for the decade prior to that.

Haha..well its been my experience that the opinions expressed by the lowest common denominator should not be taken as an intellectual starting point in any discussion.
