So now it's "New year, new me" Sabres? Thought we were good 12 games ago when Eichel came back?

I remember the excuses from Tim Murray himself. "One more win per month, and we would have made the playoffs"

Well, where are those extra wins?

His arrogance was refreshing, going to the podium and just saying "Jack Eichel" was great. But like Rex Ryan, you need to back it up with results. Show me

- sbroads24

Well to be honest, they are currently one (1) win below last year....add to that 1 loss for each of the 3 months played to date...that makes 4 wins short for the desired pace.
Clearly not good enough no doubt, however in view of the injury bug hitting harder than normal I don't think on its own it is devestating. In the East, I think a team could make up that distance. That said, I don't have faith that this coach can get this Sabres team there, especially with ROR now out for 2 weeks or more.
Another test for the team, maybe that is a good character buildingopportunity?

What does it say about the other teams that passed on the supposed obvious steal that was Debrincat before the Hawks took him?

This revisionist history crap goes on far too damn often.

Guhle looks excellent so far. No credit for that?

I looked at the 2012 draft where the start of the rebuild supposedly began.

What a sea of mediocrity outside of a select few.

Yes, every single person here would love if they could hit on a Tarasenko like player with a later pick, but it sure as hell isn't easy.

His draft was by all accounts excellent last year, but we're going to critique over what MAY happen in 2 years with a player many others also passed on? Dear god.

- kingcong39

Oh my Lord, please don't ignore what I said in my post.

I said straight out that it is hard to find gems in later rounds, but they're there. And, I only used Debrincat as a possible example of the sabres possible choices from who was available

The point was... we have made 15 picks in the second and third rounds since 2012, that's a lot. We need to hit on some, not just McCabe. I know it's early and guys need time to develop, maybe Guhle will also be a gem, it looks that way, but we'll see. But in a few years from now, if McCabe is the only one to pan out from 15 picks, than yes, they failed and they drafted like chit.

A checking role seems to be a good fit for Jack

Darcy said multiple times he started rebuilding the roster the day he traded Gaustad. That was 11-12. We have had multiple 1st rounders or have been picking top 10 since.

And yes I can count this year. This year is the +

- sbroads24

Didn't he say he wasn't trading Miller too ?

The average is about 5-7% which is about 1 in 20 to 1 in 14. So 1 out of 15 is pretty solid actually.

Why would this year not count? Are we done rebuilding? If so thank you for making my point for me.

Your logic isn't well thought out

- sbroads24

Fine, count this year. But if you really believe we were in rebuild mode in March of 2012 because we traded a fourth line center to the Predator's, I've got a bridge to sell you. I don't give a flying fack what Darcy said about the matter, those early trades were retooling at best.

I just don't understand your negative bias towards this team and especially the GM. You seem to me like one of those guys who chooses to be negative because failure is often more likely than success in pro sports and you get to pat yourself on the back for being right if the Sabres fail and reap the rewards of winning if you're wrong. It's a tired routine and your passive aggressive and not so passive comments are too calculated and lacking in an honest appraisal of facts.

At one point I think the Sabres lead in the amount of players drafted and have played in NHL games .

Remember in 2012 when the Sabres were getting boo'd off the ice regularly, so they had Jeanerette record that fan shaming promotional piece? Here we are 4 years later. What a joke.

Yes, I do. We traded him for a 1st rounder. Not exactly the same as selling off Torrey Mitchell for a 7th.

Darcy also added nothing that off season and went in with Grigorenko as an NHL center. They were rebuilding.

This GM sucks. Period. That's my opinion, and if he proves me wrong, I'll be the first to admit it.

Cause we had a extra 1st round pick for a pending UFA we traded away ? That's rebuilding ?

Every team in the league does that every year .

Every team? Half of them are the ones acquiring the rentals. We stopped adding to get better, we started adding for the future.
