I got roasted for bringing this up the other day about our prospects, that they all look great until time goes by. Remember Mika Noronen to be Hasek replacement, or Marc andre Gragnani who was to QB our power play. Mark Mancari the ideal 3rd line center of the future.
We need to step up in the drafting and development game. We only have one Brian Campbell in the past 20 years and that is not good enough. - sskkoo1
It's always difficult to project where some of these prospects end up. We all thought Connor Knapp and Nathan Lieuwen were the next goalies and then Ullmark. Development is a real tricky thing and teams make lots of mistakes. I even remember a while back that Leduc was gonna be the next great d man in the system. Well that burned a 2nd rd pick.
You need to hit on those mid round picks or get lucky witha couple 2nd rd picks that can make it. Aside from Guhle and Nylander who are can't miss, I like a few other kids that have a real shot. Borgen, Pu, Asplund, Fitzgerald and Petersen look like real gems. Brett Murray is leaving the USHL and will play for Penn State the rest of the year. That kid gets it. It's how you develop that's the key. |

Pominville, Roy, Vanek...none of those guys count? - kingcong39

Vanek was a top-five pick so that really doesn't count |

IDK guys, I have not had faith in basically any of our prospects in well over 10 years.
The only guys I thought would be good were Gerbe, Pysyk.
Currently thought, I'm holding out hope for Bailey, Pu, Nylander, Asplund. Not so high on Baptiste, Guhle... But more high on Guhle to at least be a top-6 guy.
Something about Baptiste screams Devonte Smith-Pelly or Emerson(?) Etem to me. |

Murray should get him, play him 3 weeks and then trade him and eat part of the salary - homiedclown
Well we'd only have to pay 2/3 of his remaining salary if we claimed him anyways. And I think there's a wait limit on any further moves with the player after waivers. I think it's a month, but that just might be for waivers again. |

am thinking that 2013 draft class is gonna be key for the team in the near future...already got one good one in risto with Petersen looking solid and about ready to hit the pros...might have a serviceable d-man in Florentino...if baptiste and/or bailey can make it and at least one of them make an impact, it will go a long way |

Florentino should be signing his ELC after the Friars season is over. |

not sure what will happen...have been told that they're not so sure about him...he's got size, attitude and is pretty good at moving the puck, but he's weaker in other areas like skating...
would be nice if he could eventually be counted on in a depth role |

Maybe some of those issues are why he was drafted in the 5th rd. Let him go to Rochester and see what they have in him. |

As much as I want a top pair defenseman, we could use another top six forward. Someone's gotta start cashing these layups Jack serves up. |

Completely agree with everything you've said here. My comment was just more along the lines of referring to there being a few guys who come on to the board refuse to accept that what's in our system is anything less than pure gold. We have a 47 year team history of not producing very much, but maybe Murray's picks will be outstanding and everything will soon turn around and we'll have a farm that keeps feeding us studs. Then again, maybe we won't. But that's the Sabres reality, so as fans we should maybe pump our brakes before we crown anymore of our prospects "The next great..." |
