In all seriousness, it took tampa quite a while to become a serious contender. Im not really counting that run where they lost Boston sine they more or less fell apart the following year. Mismanagement wasted some good Stamkos years.

I haven't been able to find a comparison to Dale Hawerchuck specifically, so I was wrong on that. But listening to some of his descriptions made me think of Dale Hawerchuck.

"Star-wise I hear people say David Krejci, I guess I can see some of the similarities.
But the guy he reminds me of is a Hall of Famer. He didn't have a lot of flash to him. [He] understood where everybody was on the ice. He understood what a player needed, understood when a player needed the puck. He understood how to get the most out of his linemates. He understood what plays needed to be made--offensively, defensively. [There were] so many different things that made him an exceptional player. Those are the same things that Sam Reinhart possesses."

If you had been able to enjoy watching Dale Hawerchuck play thourhout his career, this would be an exceptional description.

First time during the rebuild that I really feel they don't have any excuses. they are drastically under performing and it's getting to an unacceptable level. it would be one thing if we were keeping up with teams, but it often feels like we're playing timid perimeter hockey and I think that's on the coaching. the lack of defense is on GMTM. mcnabb and Myers and Pysk would be a hell of a lot better than 4, 6 and 77

if you dont think there's any excuses, my guess is your expectations were too high. and ill wager the solid play in the 2nd half last year in alot of semi meaningless games has alot to do with it as well.

you started a rebuild with very little in the cupboards and its only what? year 4?
that seems like a long time- but when you were as bad as the sabres were to begin with, its a long climb back. which often seems to be forgotten

and dont forget the misses murray's had in bogo, lehner etc.

reinhart being a quality young player, but not at the level you hoped when you drafted him as franchise cornerstone certainly doesnt help either.
(reminds me alot of nuge in that sense. a quality young player that can really help a team. but if youre depending on him to carry you to alot of wins as a backbone piece- the results probably aint gonna be favourable)

one thing that you were able to nab is a true top pairing minute eater early int he rebuild. be thankful for that as its tough to find. and youd probably be much worse without that homerun

you guys got some solid pieces to build around (ror, eichel, risto), but realistically, youre probably still pretty far from being even a middling team

Are you watching him play? He has a secondary assist in the last two games, and pretty much generated nothing on his own.

His assist today was a bad pass of his that got deflected to Ristolainen, who actually made a pass to Eichel
