i was never on the murray train like alot of the sabres faithful seemd to be a year ago.
but one can see the thought process of kick starting the rebuild.
i think that oiler bottom feeder drought probably had a few gms scared.
instead of this never ending losing and patience, add a few proven star quality players to the core youve drafted and give them some insulation. unfortunately he overspent to do so, but only marginally paying for a middling player that cant help your team at all really isnt a much better plan (kind of what the oilers did)
and lets not forget, drafting and developing is all well and good. and certainly the financially prudent way to build, but you actually have to develop said player into a ror. and those are few and far between in the grand scheme.
who's the last top flight guy the sabres have drafted outside the top 10? - HB77

Ryan O'Reilly has 11 goals in his last 57 games, and is being paid 7.5 million and is viewed as the next Jesus Christ (I mean Chris Drury)
That embodies what's wrong with this rebuild - sbroads24[/quotes did not know his stats were that bad.. he has turned into every other sabre ,a non goal producing player. Larsson ,I mean, grant, I mean deslauriers,I mean foligno,I mean gionta ok. Eichel and and ok eichel could at least have 11 goals in57 games. We have one player |

Who views O"Reilly as Jesus Christ, as you put it?
Unfortunately, reality is teams don't get to pay every single player precisely what they deserve, unless you think some guys are actually worth $10M+ with some of their production so far this year.
I believe I know the approach you want to take, which is only play the truly elite what their worth, or likely more than their worth, and then find bargain basement players with good advanced stats and mix in young players on ELC deals.
The only issue I have with that is I feel you end up waiting and hoping the perfect storm happens with that approach. |

the thing IMO with ROR
last season was his most productive season in the NHL
this season he was a tad behind that pace with a much better +/-
he is what he is, and just because murray overpaid him a bit, doesn't devalue what he brings
A solid second line center for a team that needs top 6 players
my issue with him is coaching not what he brings
if you want ror on your top line moving forward, jack needs to be the center |

Give Jack the "C"
He doesn't like losing, his actions speak louder than words to management!
Bylsma lost this room a month ago, his style (philosophy) does not fit this team. Time to move on until we get it right.
Bring up:
Nylander
Baptise
Girgs + for Fowler
Guhle should be here, they screwed that up in October. |

I would consider trading everybody except Eichel, Risto, Nylander and Guhle.
Do ROR and Okposo have No Movement Clauses? If not, I would see what we could get for them - but only trade them for premium returns.
I'd like to see a full youth movement for the Sabres. What's another couple years at the bottom at this point?
GMTM was a fool to accelerate the rebuild. |

Homie, 2 things:
1. HC job is Lynn's to lose allegedly.
2. Gus Bradley said to follow Lynn wherever he goes. Would you like Gus as DC? |

Dont think girgs plus gets you fowler but otherwise 100% agree. Blinded by reputation and big cap hits on D and yet a few decent pre season games got derek grant an nhl paycheque. Unreal.

He was right to accelerate, he just whiffed on most of his targets. |
