As I have stated many many times.....The Sabres were and still are WAAAAYYYY overrated by many on here..... Take away Eichel and this team is as bad as it has been since the last playoff year... - rapperray
Our biggest problem is dead weight, too many guys who don't contribute. We have some real solid players and we can use at least two more, a natural goal score and a defenseman, but we have to lose the guys who are just occupying a roster spot.
When we get rid of Moulson, Gorges, D-Lo, Grant, (Girgs... (frank)ing shame) Bogo, Gionta, and a few I'm sure I've missed, you'll see this team start to really come together. |

I understand and agree. But we haven't had the caliber of player like Eichel since Lafontaine. It's tough to win when lines 3 & 4 only can chip in a goal once every 3 games or so. And, when we have defense that his middle pairing guys that get out played by a kid from juniors, it says a lot. I'm not trying to pretend that they don't suck, I've been pushing for a stealth tank job this entire season. I don't think we have enough high-end talent yet. But, Murray really needs to clean house and lose the garbage on the roster this offseason. |

What would be really funny would be if D-LO became our version of McNabb. - sskkoo1
We should use Fasching as a trade piece to bring in a defenseman
Although it would've made more to have not traded McNabb to begin with |

Yeah, terrible trade. I can't believe that it was almost 3 years ago already. |

weren't they up against the cap at that time? - Michael Pachla
I think that was the case for retaining them both. That situation was effed up the year before imo. Briere went to arbitration and won then Sabres signed him to the one year Arb contract. Should've just signed him to a multi year deal for that much. What more did you need to see from him after the 05/06 playoff run? |

I had high expectations for this season. We did a lot of good over the past couple of years. We have real, young, fast, talent. We have an owner willing to pay up. (imagine being a fan of a team that was on the verge of greatness only to be halted by a national scandal that would send the owner of our Sabres to prison, to be on the verge of losing our team, bankruptcy, NHL taking over ownership with an honest pledge to help us keep our team here in Buffalo, with its faults, failures, the magnificence of the 1970's, in a city being slammed by the recession, We have tough winters, we bust our ass at work, we like our Hockey & Football! What allows trolls to chide Buffalo sports, pales in comparison to the voices lead by Andre Reed's induction to the NFL HOF, the Buffalo Pride that many of us know. The fact that our teams are not the definition of who we are as fans. The hate for the Pegulas is bordering on the obscene. I, for one, am very grateful for the tremendous achievements accomplished at the Water Front. I believe the Pegulas truly love the city and want to win , more for us, than for themselves. I'm not suggesting that our ownership shouldn't be critiqued as they are fair game. But I'll put up the positives vs negatives on Ownership of sports teams against ANY owner we have ever had in ANY major sports franchise, even our lost Buffalo Braves. |

Packers Lions game is awesome. Rodgers with the discount double check. Booooom. Think they said the next passing TD gave him most on the season and first time of his career. |

Haven't been a fan of Fasching since we got him
I was really down on his skating...
I'll admit that it's gotten much better,
But I still think he's got work to do
And with the other forward prospects we have,
I'm thinking he might be our best trad chip |

Really? It's not like they were the Presidents Trophy team that year or had easy go about in the playoffs. Why did Michele Thierien get the axe in February that year too? Apparently the league thought enough of him to award him with the Jack Adams the year after. |

Well, thank you for the compliment. And, I also will always support the Pegulas and Galasano for what they've done to save the Bills and Sabres. Bottom line, we as fans might complain a lot but these teams are a big part of our lives, good or bad. Without these two men we would have neither team anymore and that makes for a very long and very boring Buffalo winter. Both the Bills and Sabres have truly beat insurmountable odds in just staying in Buffalo, so for now, I'll take that as being our Super Bowl and Cup.
As for the team, it may not look that way now but there's a lot of talent on this roster currently. I truly believe we are only 3-4 guys from being in the top 10 in the league right now. With a few has-beens shipped out and replaced by Guhle, Nylander and hopefully a top 3 pick this draft, along with a solid defenseman trade or UFA, I don't see us competing with the top teams in the league. Toronto's turn around is happening fast, and there is no reason why we can't flip the switch from bad to good either.

Yep, every team will have their share of good players, but outside of Hasek we haven't had a truly dominate player since Patty. He had a 142 point season for us, which I would put at around 110 points in todays game. We need this caliber of player again, it's long overdue.

Fasching still has time and room to grow and I really hope he becomes a good player, I just don't have a clue what his ceiling is. But Murray took a real gamble on this kid and I always wondered why if he saw so much in Hudson, than why didn't he push to take him in Ottawa? The kid fell to the forth round and a year later Murray was ready to give away an NHL ready defenseman and 2 second rounders. Never made much sense to me.

Yeah but fans aren't supposed to have the ideas. We're the fans. We'll always have our opinions, but why is it the role of the Buffalo sports fan is worrying about coaching, the GM, draft position, the salary cap management? At that point you're just playing armchair GM while fans of other teams are having the actual fun. |

Holy poop that's a wide margin. Any team is better if you add 3-4 studs. But you have to nail it. Just like the Sabres are a 7 game winstreak to being right back in this thing.
