so you're saying we could've had provorov much sooner if we had just signed Suter to a 13 year contract? - YuenglingJagr
I'm really glad those contracts were outlawed in the current CBA. And I hope the max term gets reduced even further in the next one.
But I think he's going to hold up better than Weber and Parise. |

Didn't Homer try that after he lost out on Weber? - jmatchett383
Yeah, it was just a joke, but I remember reports that Flyers were very much in on Suter AND Parise. I believe they were actually rumored to have offered bigger contracts, but they decided to sign together in Minnesota. ...then Carle left |

Minnesota is a popular destination for hockey players, it seems. Eric Staal would have been a nice stop-gap center with size for us, but I don't think he considered going anywhere but the Wild.
So this surprised me. The Wild's 3C is Erik Haula who has 11 points in 26 games, and their 4C is a 2011 7th round pick named Tyler Graovac who has 3 points in 28 games. But they are still being very successful thanks to their two big centers, and a lot of scoring from the wings. Coyle and Granlund are having career years.

I think that the rumors of Weber's demise are inaccurate. And I know what the numbers say. But watching him (granted, I haven't seen him as much as in past years), but, while he's not as dominant as he was in the early 2010's, he's not this waste of space 3rd pairing/AHL tweener that some make him out to be. To me, he's still a legit top-pair defender.
But yes, I hope Provorov has a longer/better prime than those 2. |

I think Weber's prime is fine. It's the 35+ years that worry me more than they do with Suter who is a better skater. |

Scott Laughton will be on the team next year unless Vegas takes him or there's a trade. He might not be a good option, but he's definitely an option considering he was already used as the 3C as a 20 year old. - Feanor

I would summarize his NHL career so far as:
2014-15: Solid two-way play, showed speed but very little offense, got knocked out by a headshot
2015-16: Disappointing defensive play forcing move to 4th line and to LW, surprisingly high offensive production in limited minutes, got knocked out by the boards
2016-17: Injured in camp, struggled in two NHL games, got sent down to be 1C in AHL, ........
2017-18: ???????? |

The thing that worries me is that, before he got injured in camp, he was being overshadowed by Cousins, who he was basically in competition with. Not that Cousins is necessarily a bad player, but I didn't see the same "compete" that Cousins has when neither were assured of a spot. |

That worries me, too. He probably would have started the season in the AHL if he hadn't got hurt. |

Just pointing out what Stanley Cup champion #1 dmen look like. Provy has a long way to go before he's at that level. Point being, don't trade away the prospects until we know what we have. Let them all develop. - moylander
I agree with you 100% on that. Just that points arent the only way to look at it. |

The Red Wings should've worn red helmets in their outdoor game. With so much white they were nearly invisible. |

Wow. Didn't know any of this. Bad luck not getting the first pick. My gripe was JVR was traded when his value was at it's lowest. In theory the trade made sense. At the time dealing from an area of strength to address a glaring weakness. - PLindbergh31
Couldn't get all three of Edmonton's picks. Just another reason Holglerin is the (frank)ing worst, right Cupcake? |

I wanna throw out there that On Sunday, I thought we looked better than we have since the streak ended. We're healthy, the line up looks the way it should. We doubled up the Ducks in shots at home and they're a good team. I think all indications were that Stolarz should have started after his team periods in St Jose and mason has to be so tired but outside of this, I thought we worked to our strengths. I like the balance of our team, even without Streit and Schultz. |

Is this the answer? It's somebody's - Just5
As much as I like him, I'd definitely do that Ghost for Trouba trade. I doubt Wpg would, though. They tend to shoot a bit high in trade values. I think Sanheim would pick up any difference in offense next year if it did happen, though. |

Big, young, right-handed, plays all manpower situations.
That said, would not trade Ghost for him 1-for-1. |
