they're over the cap though - YuenglingJagr
Streit can go on LTIR till he's ready to play. Then Gordon goes. |

Just interesting because I thought they would've had to do either already |

It's allowed, but Vegas have no incentive to do other teams favors for cheap. The mock drafts where they take guys like Brown from LA or MacDonald are ludicrous. Getting to the cap floor without taking huge contracts in the ED will be no problem for them. - Feanor
If the Flyers attached a 2nd to MacDonald, they may consider it |

there's really no point to doing that. would much rather just stash him in Lehigh Valley |

The difference between Vegas taking him and stashing him in the AHL is $4ish million in cap space for the next 3 years that they wouldn't have with him in the AHL.
I'd give a 2017 2nd rounder and 2018 3rd rounder to take Mac. This is gonna be the only chance to get rid of him without retaining a bunch of his cap hit. |

my point is that id rather retain the bunch of his cap hit and keep the picks. 2nd and 3rd rounder is worth more than a few million in cap space that wont be used
If they are able to trade him, I would advocate for taking on as much of his contract as they can in an effort to improve the return |

I would definitely part with a 2nd rounder in this draft in order to move MacDonald |

excuse me for sounding like somebody else, but ...what is the purpose though? who do you see them using that money on? |

An offensive minded forward.
It's really going to suck if the 18-19 team is one piece away from being a serious contender but they can't do anything about it because of Mac's cap hit. |

1. Re-signing your own guys long term (Offer Ghost more up front for lower cap hit later)
2. Plain old free agency
3. Taking on a short term deal for an asset (like what the Canes did to get Teuvo)
4. Not having to match salaries in a trade
If the cap was rising at $5M every year, it might be better just to keep him, but the cap has been pretty stagnant. Cap space is a pretty big asset right now. |

Also, heading into the last year of Mac's deal Provorov, Konecny, and Sanheim are all RFAs. Simmonds and Raffl will be UFAs.
If Sanheim makes the team next season and really breaks out those 2 seasons, combined with Simmonds not falling off at all, then that Mac cap hit will really hurt. Simmonds will be 30 but probably looking for a nice payday since his agent did him no favors on his current deal.
It's just a really poorly spent 5 million of the cap for the next 3 seasons after this. I think it makes more sense to lose a pick or even 2 to fix the mistake, than make a trade and likely retain at least 2 mil of his cap hit plus having a player we may or may not actually want with a cap hit coming our way. |
