Disappointed we didn't get the 2 points but I'm satisfied with our performance. If it weren't for a great stop by Gibson on Simmonds, we wouldn't be having this conversation about Couts. I thought Ghost had a solid game and created a lot of chances and did a much better job getting the puck on net. It was good to have Read back, thought him Couts and Weise created some good pressure as well. Kessler destroyed us, but I thought as a team we did a good job limiting Getzlaf and Perry; I even thought at one point Perry wasn't playing with how little you heard his name all game. Thought this game was going to get out of hand quickly after the Kesler hat trick but I was very pleased with how we answered back and that we kept our foot on the gas even after tying the game; rather than sit back and let the ducks get the momentum back, which is something we've tend to do in the past. |

Agree, I was going to say 5 points minimum.
Time for our pair of 8M dollar players to really step up over these next 3 games and get this team going in right direction for (Frank) sakes - 3flyerkids
I was going to say 5, but with the way things are going now that seems unlikely/unrealistic. TB has been playing without Stamkos with the 10 game winning streak could have really put them behind the 8-ball. This losing streak let them right back in the mix. |

It wasn't a great save, the puck rolled on Simmer and he couldn't elevate the shot. He had Gibson beat, just needed to flip it over the pad. Oh well.
Overall they played pretty well, if they could have gotten to some fat rebounds that Gibson left out there, they could have won in regulation. They still need more of the 3 S's: size, speed and skill, but I think Hexy knows that and he has them moving in the right direction |

Not to mention the dreaded Maple Leafs.. They are in this playoff fight to the end. I bet my brother 50 bucks the Flyers would finish ahead of the Leafs and that was before the win streak. That Matthews kid is a stud. Total game changer. I guess that's what you get for tanking a season. |

I never want to see a Flyer player fail however Weise is on his 5th NHL team in his
7th or 8th season. Not a good sign. If he can't contribute at least 25 points or at least be an agitator and get the team going than he is useless. So far he has not shown this will be done. I hope he can turn it around but in my opinion Cousins has shown more of all round game - 3flyerkids
Cousins has very little of an all around game. He can chip in some points.

We will never know, but if the Flyers had the first pick would they have definitely taken Kane? |

Yes, according to Greenberg's book they had Kane rated #1 on their draft list |

Gotcha. Flyers had 12 less points than the Hawks that year too. Unreal. |

Generational talent. Have to draft in the top two picks usually to get one of those guys. They aren't in every draft either. |

Yep, and Laine has 19 goals. Helluva top 2 from last draft.

If the Gudas-MDZ pairing can get back to playing like they did last year, I'd like to see Provorov paired with Ghost.
Flyers were great last night, but I take it with a grain of salt as Randy Carlisle teams are normally awful two-way teams. - PhillySportsGuy
If the Flyers are going to continue to use Provorov against top lines, and as the #1 defenseman, then pairing him with Gostisbehere is a bad idea. That would not be the right deployment and usage of Gostisbehere, in my opinion.

Laine is impressive. He's a legit natural sniper. I see some 50 goal seasons in his future. |

Everywhere I read its the flyers playing only 11 games in January. I counted 13. Lets dispel the myth. |

A pure goal scorer. |

Yes.... the Flyers had Kane as the best prospect in the draft and would have taken him had they won the lottery. That is according to Paul Holmgren, Dennis Patterson and Simon Nolet. I transcribed the related interviews for Jay's book.
But what's more interesting about the 2007 draft is that the Flyers had an offer of two of Edmonton's three first-round picks in exchange for the second overall pick. Homer tried to squeeze all three picks, and Edmonton said no.
If the deal had been accepted, the Flyers two main targets would have been Jakub Voracek and Ryan McDonagh (whom they would not have gotten at number 15, because he went three picks earlier to Montreal). |

His shot is ridiculous. Ton of sauce on it, and deadly accurate. He's some kind of goal scorer. Every team in the league wishes they had a sniper like him. |

Using Provorov is what would make no sense. He didn't take them in Junior. And Couturier has a better shootout record than Schenn.
Couturier 2/16
Schenn 1/12
Konecny 0/3 - Feanor
Wow, your refusal to ever say anything bad about Coots borders on ridiculous.
This year, right now, coming off an extended injury I would take TK and Schenn before Coots in the skills competition. |

Wow. Didn't know any of this. Bad luck not getting the first pick. My gripe was JVR was traded when his value was at it's lowest. In theory the trade made sense. At the time dealing from an area of strength to address a glaring weakness. |

Interesting...I'll buy it because they didn't sign Briere yet and could've changed course if they were concerned about having two small guys. If they had signed Briere the year before I would bet they would've drafted JVR because of the fit |
