Interesting...I'll buy it because they didn't sign Briere yet and could've changed course if they were concerned about having two small guys. If they had signed Briere the year before I would bet they would've drafted JVR because of the fit
- Just5

They always go best available with their first round pick. They had Kane above JVR and Turris, so he would have been the pick regardless of need/fit.

Flyers don't draft by best fit. They draft best available player.

Wow, your refusal to ever say anything bad about Coots borders on ridiculous.

This year, right now, coming off an extended injury I would take TK and Schenn before Coots in the skills competition.

- opeth_pa

To try and defend cooter in the shootout is ridiculous, if you can't see TK and Schenn clearly are more offensively gifted players, that's insane. Cooter looked stiff as a board, I saw him jump off the bench and I did the same from my couch. Not even trying to say they're better players but in a skills competition, leave 14 on the bench.

What a fun game to be at - tons of chances and plenty chaos going on - Man are there a lot of flyer fans in the OC - crazy how many -
Mason played really well some stellar stops - Gibby not so much.. after the benching looks like he got his head squared away somewhat and got it together for the rest of the game - Simmonds is such a beast, loved him in LA.. always wished Ducks had made a deal for him.. and Jake crazy how skilled he is with sweet hands - Ducks kept trying to go 5 hole all night and Mason wasn't having any of it -
And how's this for bad draft luck- Pens get Sid ....2nd pick Ducks Bobby Ryan Uggghhhh -

I'm encouraged by the game last night. The west coast swings are over, right? Lets get it back on track with more consistent efforts like this and they will be playing meaningful games in April.

I think Stolarz needs more starts. That's kind of my biggest issue with Hak right now.

Must've been a fun game. What do you think of Carlisle running that ship again?

Not getting Crosby crippled the franchise. You had to wait 2 years before you won the Cup.

Laine is impressive. He's a legit natural sniper. I see some 50 goal seasons in his future.

Neuvirth probably isn't that far away, so I doubt Stolarz is going to play much. I completely agree with Hakstol playing Mason. Flyers are a bubble team. Need all the points they can get.

They said on the Ducks broadcast last night the last 3 years on the West Coast swings, the Flyers have lost all 10 games. Absolutely ridiculous.

Not as bad as I had imagined - looks like he has mellowed a bit and learned a few things - def not as gregarious as Bruce but seems to make better in game adjustments - However it's going to be all about the playoffs and getting over the game 7 hump -

Flyers get the Rangers on a back to back. What a cakewalk, expect the ice to be tilted onto the King's lap all night.

Everywhere I read its the flyers playing only 11 games in January. I counted 13. Lets dispel the myth.

Wow. Didn't know any of this. Bad luck not getting the first pick. My gripe was JVR was traded when his value was at it's lowest. In theory the trade made sense. At the time dealing from an area of strength to address a glaring weakness.
- PLindbergh31

I didn't want to trade him at all. He may not be a game changer you want at #2 overall but he is a solid top 6 LW with size and who can skate.....which we could use

Flyers Fans rule in every rink out west coast and mid west...even vs kings it can be 60-40 flyers fans and that is after kings (flyers west) won cups...Back in the day when kings sucked it was 80 /20.

Yes.... the Flyers had Kane as the best prospect in the draft and would have taken him had they won the lottery. That is according to Paul Holmgren, Dennis Patterson and Simon Nolet. I transcribed the related interviews for Jay's book.

But what's more interesting about the 2007 draft is that the Flyers had an offer of two of Edmonton's three first-round picks in exchange for the second overall pick. Homer tried to squeeze all three picks, and Edmonton said no.

If the deal had been accepted, the Flyers two main targets would have been Jakub Voracek and Ryan McDonagh (whom they would not have gotten at number 15, because he went three picks earlier to Montreal).

I remember losing that lotto and being very disappointed, then seeing Kane play in 2010 cup final I threw up a little.

Wildly entertaining is right. That was an awesome game.

I'm glad they sat Konecny a game. Mentally, he was swimming out there. It's like his body is faster than his mind. He wants to go, go, go every second but he was out there making a ton of poor decisions. It looked like he learned to pause a little bit and let things develop last night. He's got all the physical stuff down, he just needs to learn the mental part. He's got the look of a top 6 winger for sure.

Rose Parade and Rose Bowl game helped (per some Penn State fans at the game) the Philly turnout.

players like weise should never ever be given 4 year deals. that was flat out a mistake.

same with shultz types, 1 year deals. now you have him wasting in the press box eating over 2mm in cap space.
