Whaley "We believe we are close"
Murray "It doesn't take 5 years to be competitive"
Only one of them is a "liar" other is just a straight shooter. - sbroads24
Ah yes back to the Murray bashing when it was just found out there is a GM in Buffalo that is worse at his job...
Bash Murray all you want but he at least has some sort of a plan...
If you want Whaley to find the cheap FA guys and find some steals here and there I am fine with, but there needs to be someone over his head that is in control of football operations because clearly he is either "not privy" or clueless. |

He wanted big strong guys (Kane, Bogo)
Not saying it was the right plan but at least I could see what he was trying to build.
EJ Manuel was Whaley's guy...but lets count on him to find a starting QB for the Bills
|
|
|
|
Easily. The Bills don't have a franchise QB, and are mediocre. Which means there is a decent amount of talent here to go 8-8, or 7-9.
The Sabres have the guy, and have failed at building around him to this point, have spent a ton of cap, and wasted a ton of lottery tickets. - sbroads24
I get it...don't agree with it, but I get it |

Right, but that just means they both equally missed/screwed up. Not sure one is better/worse than the other. I wouldn't trust either of them |

Murray was direct in calling the Sabres' last-place finish "unacceptable."
And he was blunt in laying the blame on everyone from management to the coaching staff and on down to his players.
"A lot of nights it was hard to watch," Murray said. "A lot of nights we competed hard and just didn't have enough talent to put us over the top. But other nights, it wasn't pretty."
-----
That's Murray a year before our 2015 season, calling it u unacceptable to be that bad. Yet, we all knew the next year we would be purposely bad.

Buffalo Sports are a dumpster fire
The Pegulas need to stay away from football operations decisions and if after watching that presser enough makes me think Bylsma was a Pegula hire after they missed out on Babs.
They wanted a big name (Rex, Byslma) not the right name it seemed. Like they needed a big fish to be considered true players.
Just freaking win damn it |

im not big into football so i cant say with any certainty but i dont recall the bills ever stripping it down and having a boatload of assets etc. etc. (im not sure you can even do that in the nfl lol)
All i know is the sabres tore it down, had a poop ton of assets and years later are still bad despite having a franchise guy. - Sabresfan-365
kay Stephenson/hank bullough era...I lived through that mess...took them a few years and jim Kelly signing with the bills after his usfl stint for them to start making some noise...
it helped that they drafted one of the greatest defensive ends of all time first overall in bruce smith and they were a part of a blockbuster trade that brought in Cornelius bennett |

doesn't happen too often in football i imagine? |

And when Pegula realizes it doesn't work he will rebuild, which is probably what's in motion now.
If this team was just striving for mediocrity, it wouldn't even be a debate. Rex would be here and Tyrod would stay. - sbroads24
does it matter if they've been striving for mediocrity?...that's where they've been for 17 years |

I remember that one distinctly...was living in florida and could not believe the bills actually pulled off that trade...they never, ever did anything like that...taught me totally off guard |

Sure, but not Pegula/Whaley. They've only been here a few.
Just like we wouldn't blame Murray for the Sabres 6 year drought.
For the record, Whaley could be fired tomorrow and I wouldn't care. I think he's done enough to warrant it. Just don't get why he's public enemy #1 |

They weren't even remotely watchable.
We all could have handled a losing team if they were watchable, we all believed the tank was the right move.
Murray also said McEichel numerous times on WGR |

Whaley kept his job as GM because the Rex hire was, almost entirely, a Pegula/Brandon hire.
More to that -- Brandon’s expanded role with Pegula Sports and Entertainment will keep him out of this coaching search, so when the new coach is hired, we won’t read a “don’t let him out of the building” line from Brandon.
Whaley repeatedly called the hiring of Rex a “Bills decision” but also made mention of Rex reporting directly the ownership during his time as Buffalo’s head coach.
The fact that the Pegulas have the final say on the hire is normal. |

Let's see how the rest of the season plays out.
They aren't a playoff team, I will say it after those last 2 games.
But I guarantee it if Bylsma gets fired before the season ends Murray would hold a press conference... |
