My expectations of a guy who was the first forward taken in his class are just different than yours.

He's a solid player. I'm not disputing that. If he keeps this pace and scores 55 points, Ill feel differently than when he was on pace for 38 after the first 16 games

Fabbri has more than Reinhart
William Nylander now has 27 points (and is a rookie)

Fabbri has as many points playing on a team with some of the best depth in the league, Tarasenko, and much better defense and coaching.

Draisaitl plays on a team with Connor McFreak.

Ehlers playing on a team with Laine, which is ranked 10th in the league with 109 goals for, with a much better defense than us.

Nylander playing on a team with hall of famer Auton Matthews, nuff said.


Reinhart hasn't had a consistent line mate all season on a team with possibly the worst D-core and a complete lack of team talent. I'd say he's performing much better than his stats show but what do I know, my eyes are beady.

From his draft year, Reinhart presently sits 5th in total scoring. The sample size is still relatively small. Can i suggest we revisit where this all washes out in about 3-years? With small sample sizes, weird things pop up. For instance, Ekblad is only at 10 points and Dylan Larkin is only at 15 points in their 3rd year. I don't think anyone here would suggest these guys are trending downwards or are busts.

Revisionism is a common thing. With every single draft in every single sport, there are always going to be changes in the draft order when you revisit things 5 or 10 years down the road. At the time, Reinhart was grouped in the top 4 with Ekblad (who was going #1), Bennett and Draisaitl. Flip the coin on the two Sam's - they will probably end up somewhere around the same point totals when their careers are done. If Draisaitl wasn't playing with McJesus, there is no way he would be putting up the points he is. And for some to say "why didn't Murray take Pastranak, what a buffoon he was for missing him", 24 other teams took a pass on Pastranak as well.

Your above points are totally valid, I just think it might be a bit too early to pass judgement on Rhino vs his peers. The same with Eichel vs Marner, Matthews etc etc. The only thing we will all agree on is that McJesus is the truth.....

Aside from Darisaitl, all of them are projecting as 50 point guys. Great role players and a nice way to round out your top-6, but it's pretty weak as a draft to produce 1 PPG player and that guy gets to have Jesus McJesus on his team.

It was a weak draft. No matter what, we were picking top-2. No one else would be putting up those numbers on this pile of poop roster. We were intentionally the worst team 2 years in a row, none of the other teams actually tried to tank except maybe Toronto and they already had depth coming out of their ass.

I've finally figured out the Sabres once and for all ............

They'll only play well when there is absolutely ZERO on the line .... basically buried in the standings. But give them a glimmer of hope/promise that they could actually become a "contender" .... and they'll fail spectacularly.

This also explains the late season climb to 9 in the standings that inevitably awaits come March and April.

There are also some late-round first and second that I believe will be good players for their teams

Again, Reinhart and Bennett right now ARE the weak part of the draft. The fact that there doesn't look like a typical 70-80 point all star as the top forward, is the weak part.

The rest of the first round looks actually pretty good. Larkin, Draisatil, Ehlers, Pastrnak, Nylander all making impacts of some sort by 20 years old is decent.
