bailey gets a goal early in second and still finished with only 10 minutes of ice time

coach did not reward him for the goal

no pp time in 3rd period when game was over

this coach sucks

I feel like he did the same thing when Carrier got his 1st, as well as Baptiste. So dumb.

I've done some reading here inside this blog and I have to say that I am puzzled.
There are Sabre fans that hate on Samson ?
The people that profess a dislike for Samson certainly have a deep seeded agenda, for one reason or another.
It's either that or they just don't understand the game fully, and a players role in its entirety.
Samson's game as a whole is more complete than 98% of his teammates.
Late, during the 3rd period last night, Samson deep in the Rangers corner to the right of HL, Samson outmuscled 2 Ranger players along the boards for the puck- staying on his skates .
Perhaps you just miss certain other mature and valuable things Samson already brings this team in his very young career?
Samson needs to remain a Buffalo Sabre for a very long time.
Trading this young man would be a huge mistake in my opinion.
He's young but I see growth and maturity with the puck that most do not possess this early on in their careers.
If you are waiting for Samson to explode into some 50 goal sniper, you'll forever be disappointed because he's not that player.
He's a 25-30 goal scorer with an incredible hockey IQ that is far more s set up man ala Adam Oates than he is a Brett Hull.

I'm not trying to be a downer. They beat a good NYR team, but it was one win. They need to string together 4-5 in a row to show that they are better than what the record shows.

You want to prove the naysayers something, beat Chicago tomorrow.

Why is this perceived attitude of us being world beaters a thing? We won a game, we're happy with the way we played, media thinks it's one of the best games we've played all season.

No one here is saying we're a great team or we're dominating. We're happy for the result of one game and are hopeful it continues. That is all.

The constant mantra of "we're going to be good this year" has something to do with it...

Followed by the excuse of "it's the coaching, stupid".

No one's said that in two months.

regardless of excuses, everyone knows this team barely has the potential to sniff the playoffs. That defense must. Must. Be fixed.

45 games left - yes, still half the season.

Here's what happens in two different scenarios that they need to fulfill to be "good" the rest of the season:

5 of every 8 points possible: +55 points (plus 1 game left), finish season with 91+
6 of every 8 points possible: +66 points (plus 1 game left), finish the season with 102+

5 out of every 8 points is just barely above .500 (since it means 2 wins and a loser point in every 4 games played), yet even that "low bar" has them end the season with near-playoff position points (last season two Eastern Conference teams made the playoffs with 93 points).

If they can get, and keep!, their heads out of their ass and play like they did last night, a big improvement is very much possible still.

The coaching leaves something to be desired, but this notion that he's the only one holding this team back from the playoffs is folly. This is a "both/and" scenario.

I think its probably 65% coach, 35% players...but yes I agree

I see a lot of blame/criticism being heaved at the feet of Bylsma and to a degree I do agree with some of it.
That's when I ask, what has this General Manager done for this team with the exception of O'Reilly?

Last night was the ideal style we want to see them play. However, the Rangers also played very poorly. Good on them for taking advantage of it, but you're not going to get teams to lay down like that on most nights. For once, the Sabres weren't the team to do it. It's one of those cases where one team seems to have the other's number for whatever reason. It happened to the Sabres even in the good old days of 2005 through 2007 (that team's seeming inability to beat someone like Atlanta or Florida was infuriating). I still don't think this team is a playoff team, no matter who's behind the bench, and no matter what style they play.

the good for murray

1. the goalie position, solid
2. ror
3. okposo
4. kane

the picks, aside from reinhart and eichel, will take a few years to settle

IMO it's not as good as we want, not as bad as it's made out to be

One thing I will say about the coaching that is a head scratcher is why does Okposo among other wingers that don't play center take so many faceoffs? Even when Jack is on the ice. Bylsma gets way too wrapped up in the lefty/righty matchups to a point where he is going to have someone who doesn't normally take faceoffs against someone that does because the matchup is right. The next time I see Okposo win a faceoff will be the first time.

At the beginning of the season i thought 90 pts was realistic and just missing out on the playoffs. This was before all of the key injuries to Jack/ROR etc. Still think they are capable of getting 85 - 90 points. Good - not world beaters - like you said above.
