If Cal Petersen decides to leave school after his junior year, the only team he can sign with is Buffalo until August 15, 2018. Per CBA they own his rights until after his 4th year of college. He's a Junior now. He would become a UFA after 8/15/18. I just read through it and have been chatting on a Sabres site about this very issue. Kris Baker isn't correct.

I thought something was whacky about this FA thng after Junior year but didn't see his Tweets or article so didn't comment on it. A college player is only a FA after his Senior year, that is why team's draft some college players because they can manage their assets better. They do not have to sign college players as soon,make them as part of the 50 they can sign and also see them develop before they offer them a contract. Junior players can go back into the draft sooner. Baker was so far off on this.
