I'm not very good at reading some of these charts out there, but the assumption here is that the team allows Nilsson to get pelted by higher quality shots than Lehner, yet still performs better?

That's why that chart Stripes posted earlier was so surprising to me.

I think the big picture numbers say that Nilsson is getting better goal support, but the chart suggests the Sabres are taking fewer dangerous shots when he plays.

Could it be that Lehner is just plain bad luck? The Sabres take more dangerous shots when he's in the pipes, but score fewer goals???

In the 14 games Nilsson has played he's faced 4.7 High danger shots per game.

I don't think we tighten up with Nilsson

This shot is shots FOR by Sabres. How we play offense in front of the two goalies. It doesn't speak directly to how we play defense in front of them.

Sbroads data would speak to that.

Basically they can't score for poop when Lehner is in net but have more high risk attempts taken per game. It's pretty much luck and bad luck at this point.

Also the 2.8 goals per game since Eichel came back would absolutely give this team 3 more wins since they were only scoring 1.86 goals per game without him. 1 more goal a game...

Murray is right. If Eichel was healthy they're in a playoff spot right now, with games in hand.

Fix the blue line and this could be a dangerous team.

This was my guess a while ago. What a shame.

Different systems work for different players. Just adding a counterpoint here.

Shats is still a high quality Dman who could easily pair in the top 4 here. Let's not pretend Bo is a better Dman than Shats. Cause that is never true. All of his numbers suggests he's a more useful Dman in both zones than Bo. He's not a 7M dman. But if we paid him Bogo's salary, I wouldn't flinch.

Which in the right scenario could work out. If you have a competent top 4 nobody really needs to play too many minutes (difficult ones too). Its just surprising to see , particularly in this stage of shattenkirks career.

Which in the right scenario could work out. If you have a competent top 4 nobody really needs to play too many minutes (difficult ones too). Its just surprising to see , particularly in this stage of shattenkirks career.

I'm excited to see if Murray can bring in some quality in the back end. All while keeping the 18-19 cap in mind. I'll give him a pass for Franson and Gorges, Gorges brought in while he still had a little something left and to lead a band of fools through hell.. and Franson simply to help the pp before the emergence of Risto. Bogo was a good idea in theory, same idea with Kulikov about the physicality, but there's nights where...man.. Bogo just looks rough. And Kulikov has been brutal. Maybe he simply hasn't had a chance to get into a rhythm? I don't know. But as of now, when he plays, he's not helping. We're free of 2/4 of those mentioned this season, and maybe Gorges can be traded. Otherwise we've got him as the 6/7 for next year. So, maybe Guhle comes in for Franson and we sign a guy who can play competent minutes.

And to be fair, Franson hasn't been THAT awful this year.

That's for sure. But you've gotta pair some guys with others, despite talent. Spread the wealth. It's my assumption Shats and Pie are the best 2 guys on that back end. But Bo is a quality shutdown guy and Parayko is a young, great looking player. I'm surprised Shats doesn't get more minutes, and I think everyone in that org knows he's gone next season, but that's not an excuse to downgrade his minutes. Maybe he's just more of a guy you don't want on the PK or taking defensive zone starts.

But Bo is a quality shutdown guy and Parayko is a young, great looking player. I'm surprised Shats doesn't get more minutes, and I think everyone in that org knows he's gone next season, but that's not an excuse to downgrade his minutes. Maybe he's just more of a guy you don't want on the PK or taking defensive zone starts.
