Even some of those higher picks take awhile to figure things out. Victor Hedman is a pretty good example. Yes, he was in the NHL from day 1, but for his first few years, there was talk that he wasn't playing up to his draft position. Then, all of a sudden, it all seemed to click.

Drouin is probably another guy, and even now that he seems to have come around quite a bit, he can't seem to stay healthy (he's been listed as DTD or O in my fantasy league far more often than I'd like).

Stamkos had a good first season, but there was talk that even he could be a bust after that first year. Not everyone comes in and lights the league on fire like Crosby and Ovechkin.

Absolutely, but the flip side is there are also guys like say Bogosian who was picked 3rd, and has never really gotten much better since he was 19-20.

Kane was also picked 4th and has never really had the success he did at 19-20 either.
