Sekeres said the Giants and Comets might both plan to build an arena in Surrey - VANTEL
why? Theres no reason to build an arena in surrey.
And where would they put it? I know surrey from when I lived around there and I cant think of a single area to put it unless you tear down crappy houses around the Turf. Surrey is pretty packed full.
Makes more sense to use the langley event center. Theres more $ in many areas of langley anyways. |

Too many events there now that the Giants are playing there. Very doubtful they could schedule it all in. |

There is a chunk of land that the Toigo's previously were approached by the City of Surrey about doing a P3 project I believe in the vicinity of the dock area around Scott Road station. That obviously fell through but Surrey has been pushing for a mini stadium for years. They have (or at least had) the fastest growing population in BC, lots of people means better revenues
Langley is solid, but I personally think the arena is even too small for the Giants, and no way they want to build another big arena with Major Junior and Jr. A teams already there to waterdown the market |

Horvat was a player that could develop 4th line, Boeser likely will need to switch between 3rd and 4th line. I see Virtanen having a wake up call and coming into camp next season wanting to stay. I am also tired of seeing our 4th line playing solid minutes in the last 5 minutes of a game when we are down by a goal. I saw them get 2 shifts in the last 5 mins(1 being at around 2m30s) of that game. WD is probably the only coach in the league, possibly history of, that makes that call. 3 players with a combined 4 goals on the season are no going to tie the game for you. - Retinalz
I know its maddening. Problem is the amount of his strange ways have really piled up. Really, time to move on to a much better HC |

You know Bo and Megna play different positions right? Cant really compare their roles (not to mention he is only behind Sutter, Sedins and Eriksson in forward icetime per game).
I would understand the beef if Willie took Sven away from Bo to play with the twins, weakening Bo's line, but putting Megna there was a benefit to him instead keeping a hot line together - WhiteLie
yes of course they play different roles. I was responding to a specific post in which the young guys got little time. I was pointing out that megna in his 1st part season here didnt have to do that and was gifted a prime position |

I think Codes' point though was that WD seemed to handle Bo really well. He went from very little ice time, protection against other team's top lines, and now he is only behind Sutter in forward shifts per game, leads all forwards in shorthanded icetime and really leaned on in all situations.
Megna is a little older, so maybe WD is using him to protect the rest? Or perhaps he was the best of who was available since Bo-Sven-Burr and Granlund-Sutter-Loui were playing as solid lines? |

Have no idea what the arena currently hosts.
Abby is still the best choice Id say. They've already hosted AHL. |

ya thats the area I was referring too, right be the skytrain. Crappy area, might as well tear it down and put up something cool. Surrey doesnt have a lot of $ in its population bro. Sure there are a few upscale areas but generally surrey is low income. Abby too, but you'd get people from langley as well. |

I truly hope we have a new head coach next year. It will not make us a cup team, but We will have some more young players making the jump next year and I don't want WD to ruin their careers because he wants a useless vet to play instead. - Retinalz
Maybe so but we r not far removed from last season when nearly all of Vancouver jumped all over the Canucks season. Ignore tanknation. We played the kids a ton out of necessity while adding tons of key injuries to the equation. Now if ppl truly want change they cannot go to the well & regurgitate the past which they will. Fickle fan will strike again like a broken record. If the vets r here to stay u play them in key roles. WD won't go thru last year all over again. Patience has been mentioned here many times yet too many folks here do not exercise what they preach. Facts r we r still rebuilding on the fly like it or not. |

I have certainly had my questions about Willy and some of his decision making, but the proof is with Bo. Willy introduced him into the league perfectly. Sheltered his minutes, gave him good assignments, and put him in a position to succeed and develop while on a mediocre team. Virtanen was given MORE opportunity than Horvat (perhaps one would argue TOO much) and completely swung and missed. For all his faults, Willy did a tremendous job with developing Horvat, and I don't think many of your Willy Haters can object to that.
EDIT: Let me stop everyone right now who is about to bring up Bo's +/- in his first year.

Last year we lost because the youth wasn't ready. This year we win because of the youth. There is a big difference between this year and last. Our youth all see ready and capable this year, unlike last. |

Why Vancouver never moved their team to Abbotsford is beyond me.... - Codes1087
There were talks between Aquaman and Abby before they headed to Utica but Abby had just gotten out of a very bad contract with Calgary and Aquaman wanted an even worse deal so Abby said no deal. Probably was the right call at the time. Hopefully they are more realistic if they talk to Abby again.

I have absolutely no issues with how Willy D deployed Horvat in his rookie year. Look at how his 10 minutes a night on the 4th line with scrubs eventually turned him into the player he is today.
Part 2: Who do you think will be joining the Canucks next year as rookies? Apart from Boeser (if and when he signs), or maybe Pedan (after perhaps Sbisa is maybe claimed), I see no one in the pipeline who will be ready to go. Virtanen has not shown much in his stint at Utica. - Codes1087
Good point on BO. He was brought along slowly as he should be & look how he has grown. WD is no dummy & BO does not complain. Future captains have character & BO is just that. He understands perfectly well what is going on & continues to get better with WD at the helm. This is important. |

You have to give the fans in Utica credit though. The jam that barn every night. Attendance records are crazy. |

I also remember the word on the street that management forced WD hand with Bo, had no choice but to play him as 4c. last year JV should have been sent down, but McCann stayed up out of necessity. We had key injuries at center and no better options. |
