Time to draft a new core and pay them lots. Kesler was a d!ckhead but him and Henrik were probably the best 1/2 center punch we've ever had....thus the success they had. - LeftCoaster
I would have to agree with that. Would have been nice to have that Norris Dman for the 2011 cup run to round it all out.
Yes drafting a new Core is underway. Bo and Boeser to me are a great start and Demko once developed as well. lots of drafting gaps still to fill though. |

But also a good reason why they have 5 combined cups in the past 8 seasons. when you have championship core guys you lock them up. One of the reasons we let that goof Kesler walk…he'll never be a champion…and neither will the Sedins at this point.
Plus we have never had a sniff of a Norris Dman a key ingredient to championships. - LordHumungous
Ageee with you. Just adding that the Sedins at the time took less then market value. They missed getting the Cup by a game seven. So the money was worth it. All without a Norris D type either that would have made the difference. If healthy of course, since the whole team was injured.
The next big money guy will be Horvat and at how much will be contested. The search and development of having stars will be interesting. But do you see Cap concerns here? |

Their contracts are not a discount. They are making 14 .2 mil what discount is that? The contract before they made 12 mil. At the time they signed both contracts it was fair money for services provided. |

Lets clear the air a bit...
Starting with LE @6m/yr thats less than 5% of the cap.
Thats not hancuffing the team. UFA's r not cheap we had the cap.
1 player won't turn a team around only be a part going forward.
Lucic Backes & Ladd r not game changers.
As for JV i'm sure many ppl here were not the swiftest at his age.
Overblown hysteria by impatient ppl preaching patience mostly.
The expansion draft is the same for 30 teams.
Lots of time yet for pieces to move around league wide.
Last TDL is dead & buried unless the drama queens cannot let go.
Canucks fanbase never cease to amaze...... |

I don't really see cap concerns at all for the next 3-5 years as the Sedins-Edler-Burrows-Miller should all be gone soon so if managed properly we should be fine. |

The league/market rewards past play more then potential in contracts. They took a $900K raise from their 2009 contract. That's not much of a bump. At the time it was considered fair or a home discount value for them.
The fact they are now in decline doesn't mean they are being over payed. That issue of value was determined when they signed. Maybe they can still eke out production by seasons end that would be on par for that payment given their resumes. But either way it's not the issue for Canucks as they have cap space to sign guys and bring in free agents. Another year of the Sedin contracts won't hurt either.
But their contract payments shouldn't be a reason they get ice time or prominent deployment at this point. So shouldn't we just focus on who's showing they can play? |

Next year we should be a little concerned 10.5 mil come off with Burrows and Miller but...
You still need to replace Miller and Burrows . Bo will probable get Burrows 4.5 mil plus his 900K and you still need to replace Burrows
Guddy will probably get a 1.5 raise and Tryamkin is going to want a raise.
Canucks need to renegotiate 11 contracts next year.
3 will get raises and you need to replace Burrows and Miller. The remainder of the contracts will probably be replacing with other scrubs and no improvement to the club.
You need to have your high priced players contributing and not sucking the life out of you whether they make 5% only or not. |

The final two years of this contract they will come no where near expectations so don't give me the crap they took a discount.

Good points of course. Properly managed of course we can replace Miller- Burrows with players of half their current salary for what we are getting out of them. Next year will take some creativity yes but I think Benning is up to the task.

Show me where I said that?
I said they are being overpaid this year and probably next. 14 Mil for this type of play is retarded.
What team do you cheer for by the way ? The resaon I ask is because you ended your rant with" Canucks fans never seem to amaze". I am gathering you mean it in derogatory way so are you part of that derogatory fan base or do you cheer for another team.
Next where did I mention in any of my comments that I thought someone on the Comets should be playing on the Canucks? You need to refresh my memory.
It is easy to twist comments to make them work for you. Ask anyone if they think the Sedins are worth 14 mil right now I think you will find very few who agree with you. |

Nice try at being facetious.
Of course Canucks r my team.
As for the so-called majority of fans i've called them out for decades for what they r.
Players r worth what they r paid PERIOD.
U don't have to like it but accept it.
Going on about the Sedins contracts when we have no replacements is nonsense.
Anyone can cherry pick any contract at any point in time. |
