although true, i'm really not concerned at this point...but I did notice the he wasn't farting around with fancy stuff yesterday afternoon...and, voila!...two goals - Michael Pachla
My DVR F'D up and didn't record the game.
But yah, 13 shots at the net...nice.
Do it again, and be a monster when a turnover occurs...go get the damn puck!
Time to take the training wheels off...let's see that single focused driver to control the outcome of the game!

i'd like to think that the radio home of the buffalo sabres would start their afternoon show with sabres/leafs...but...it's about the bills and an assistant coaching search...

I get it...but I don't agree with it...

That station irritates me. I know, I know, Buffalo will always be more of a football city, blah, blah, blah.
But at some point, we've rehashed these same conversations about what the Bills need to do in the offseason so many times it's brutal.
Can't they discuss the Eichel/Matthews matchup and stuff? Isn't that at least a smidge bit more entertaining right now?

I didn't notice him in the first handful of games he played. Then he got hurt. When he came back, he was a tire fire (as per usual for him). He's starting to settle back in finally from the injury. But this is the pattern with him.
If he could stay healthy, he'd be just fine as one of the guys in a middle pairing role, IMO. The problem is that he can't stay healthy for a full season and then when he comes back he's brutal for at least 10 games. - HonkFortheGoose

Couldnt have said it any better. - ImThatGuy
I honestly don't hate him. If we had the depth on D that we could ease him back in after an injury, it wouldn't be a problem. The issue is that we have nowhere near the depth we would need to accommodate that.
Difference between the two rosters IMO is a Mitch Marner type
Matthews = Eichel
Kadri = ROR
JVR= Okposo
Rielly= Risto
Nylander = Reinhart
Connor Brown = Kane
Gardiner >> McCabe
Komarov= Foligno
Clarkson= Moulson - sbroads24
But that's the huge difference. I'm a leaf fan so I've watched marner for a while. This kid has got more point potential them matthews. And he is very aware defensively as well. Kid is a star. He is starting to do things he done in junior that ppl said wouldn't fly.
Also, not knocking eichel but matthews complete game makes him superior.
My point is.. Matthew's and marner have as much if not more point production ability than your 1 star and then we compare the rest.
I'm not being a homer here, and certainly not taking away from Sabres, cause you guys will be a threat for sure
Signs Ladd instead of Okposo
Fires coach after 1st franchise shutout in Boston
Way to go, garf. - TheSabresTaco
This was clearly coming for a while, but like you are saying (and we have seen here in Buffalo too much), the GM fires a coach to save his job, for now.

That, and his cap hit is that of a legit #2-3 D man.
You really can't do much worse for that value than him currently

Agreed, I don't think people are aware of how good/great Marner is going to be.
However, I do think Eichel/Matthews are a lot different. Eichel is more explosive, creates more on his own.
Matthews has had a ton of "Right place, right time" goals this year.
I do think Matthews will end up a more complete, less dynamic player than Eichel
