I'm glad you called out the GM, because I think this is the key issue with the floundering Sabres. Theoretically, given the timing of their tank, this team should be 1-2 years ahead of Toronto in its rebuild. But, clearly, they've fallen significantly behind

The Leafs have made nothing but intelligent moves - they've drafted well, they've exercised patience, and they've flexed their financial muscle in all the right ways. Buffalo, on the other hand, has been let down by Tim Murray. He's been flat out slaughtered in some major trades that have set this team back considerably (Kulikov trade, Kane trade, etc)

I think Pegula fires him after this season. Tough sledding ahead for Buffalo

i think thats what hes doing, playing conservative so the d doesnt get us murdered. thats what coaches do, still dont think hes the guy to get us where we wanna go if/when the d is fixed properly. i think the cost to fix the d is going to leave a lot of people very unhappy. i dont care. if we end up a better team because of it.

ps- is chiarelli still considered a fool for trading hall for larsson?

don't think any major changes on defense will happen this season

He's definitely grown as a player. He's become more confident with what he can do with the puck; I think that's what I've noticed most about him this year. Better passing, takeaways, knowing where the puck will go. It's nice to see. I've also seen him and Jack lifting sticks right before the other team's player gets the puck. Every player does that but I've noticed them doing it almost every shift.

cool part about him getting it together is that his sophomore slump lasted less than half a season

If Whaley is still here Tim's job is safe.

I don't think GMTM has screwed it up that badly. But I do think he has a problem and previous moves are currently hampering his ability to make a meaningful move.

they also haven't been challenged by adversity...

that said, there's a pretty good sub plot to tonight's game...murray built by acquiring young vets like o'reilly, kane, Bogosian and Lehner...leafs are icing a team full of rookies...

I expect the more veteran team to come out on top in a big way tonight

Not much left to trade at this point without really emptying out the cupboards. The "extras" we have right now aren't really anything that's going to get you what you really need right now.

It's quite a pickle, but he created it.

Sam Reinhart earned an assist and had three shots on goal during Monday's 4-1 win over Dallas.
Reinhart was reunited with Jack Eichel, who had two goals and 10 shots in the victory. "We've wanted to be moved back together," Reinhart said Monday. "We were excited yesterday in practice. We were excited this morning coming to the rink." The duo has seen some time together is recent games, but Reinhart was still mostly skating at center until Monday's match.

Don't let Bylsma catch wind of this. They'll be split in a heart beat.

No, the extras are the guys like Moulson, D-Lo, etc. Not exactly guys that are going to get you much in return in a trade.

Can't afford to trade Bailey, Baptiste, etc as the cupboards would be bare if you did that. And those are the only guys that are going to carry any type of real value in the system right now.

Anyone that's really worth much of anything right now are players we shouldn't be looking to move for the most part.

Yeah, good call on Whaley. How does that dude still have a job?? Zero games for Shaq Lawson and Reggie Ragland, your first and second round draft picks. Come on. I hope they let Stephon Gilmore walk in the offseason. Dude is the next Jarius Byrd - super overrated, and not worth the money he'll get. I could go on about the Bills all day, so I'll stop now...

A couple of years ago, Murray decided that he'd stockpiled enough young assets, and he went all-in on Kane, Bogosian, O'Reilly, Lehner, and Kulikov. The problem is that only one of those guys is a useful long-term piece. Ironically, the one who drove his truck into a Tim Hortons the day after signing his contract

Now there's a gap in talent on the roster, and very few pieces left to deal. Tough spot, but he made his bed

Oi, Lawson played in 5 games. And really, Ragland? The guy got injured, no GM is predicting that. I dislike Whaley but at least be accurate in your criticisms

Ironically, the one who drove his truck into a Tim Hortons the day after signing his contract
What about him? What's ironic? What? Did he accidentally the whole thing?

the extras are what they were brought in to be in the first place...Gionta, Moulson and gorges all served their purpose...all are close to being in their proper roles right now...Gionta comes off the books next year, gorges the following year and Moulson one year after that

And the Pagulas think that know everything about sports. I guess 17 years out of the NFL playoffs is something to celebrate.
