You're so right ...

Love Office Space, but the question is about Nico. Where in my question to you was there anything about Laine? There wasn't. It's all about context |

Nope. Not one bit. That's what I expected when the rebuild started, a slow process with a ton of young high end talent.
What I did not expect was to spend a ton of cap space, trade out a ton of picks, bring in 80% of a new blue line, almost a whole new forward core, all within 3 years, and still be a bottom 10 team.
I don't think we will be bad forever, I think picking Eichel and getting ROR will prevent that, but we all "suffered" so we could eventually watch a team that contends for years. - sbroads24
We're not actually bad now. A bad team is bad night in and night out with no end in sight. We're bad for 3-4 games, and then all of a sudden, for a game or 3 they somehow realize that they do have talent and can beat any given team on any given night.
The only thing currently consistent about this team is how inconsistent they are. It's super frustrating, but there's too many around here that act like the sky is falling ALL THE TIME.
The team isn't perfect, far from it. But it's not as bad as many keep trying to make it out to be. |

May be wrong hear but the only pick that could have gotten us laine or Matthews was ours correct? I guess technically we could have won it with the pick we gave the Jets, but to say we could have had those two(or one) if we didn't trade for ROR and Kane is wrong I believe. And seriously Buffalo winning the lottery |

You do realize you quoted a post about Laine ? Then you said how would that affect getting your boy nico
- GERBE!!!75PTS
And I never said HOW would that affect getting him. Just getting him. My question insinuated that we didn't get either. So potato is clearly the answer I was looking for. |

Today is a good day to go outside...
Same old crap but since it's a Sabres Leafs game we get to go back and forth about a third thing are the Leafs further along...this season yes sure, but some Sabres posters act like they are Cup contender or something. |

agreed
they are nothing special yet
just one of 16 teams that are not great, and don't totally stink - homiedclown
I also agree they are not anything special, most leaf fans know this!just some on this site don't, lol we know that their defense is pretty shatty 😨and their young, so it's a project that's a long way away! |

one more thing to think about
matthews is playing for the leafs now
assuming nylander, our first rd pick from last year, plays with the sabres next year there really is no gap between the 2 teams
I think our prospect pool is better, esp in net
I think our "older" vets in ror and okposo is better than bozak and jvr
I think Risto is better than Gardiner or Rielly
they have a better coach behind the bench and that is the difference right now |

I know people hate stats, so I understand if this isn't something you or everyone agrees with, but most stats in general say this team is neither lucky or unlucky, they are right where they should be in the standings.
Mike Schopp did a segment on this yesterday after the game. Most metrics have this team well below average in a majority of categories as far as shots, 5 on 5 play etc.

We started most of this season with a incomplete roster. Just recently we have gotten it healthy. Where could this team be if it had those games to form some chemistry ? |

it's nice to see them doing better, don't get me wrong
my guess is 2 to 3 years from now, leafs and sabres will be in the playoffs again on a regular basis and the fun trash talk can begin again |

flip side is if bogo, kulikov and gorges played in 40 plus games, they could be worse than they are

The problem with your theory is that we may never have even gotten Eichel without those deals. Who's to say that Ari doesn't get last place without the Kane deal (essentially two players on IR for Stafford and Myers playing.) You can't. I'm also not saying that it wouldn't have happened, but there is no way of actually knowing. So to say that if Murray doesn't make those trades, we would have Eichel and Laine is not exactly accurate. And my point was how does this all effect getting your fan crush in Nico. |

its not so much the pool itself but the improvement they've made while maintaining flexibility with assets and cap. |

I get it, man. I really do. I get the bitterness, the inferiority complex, the refusal to face reality, etc. You've never won a cup, you've just suffered through 4 or 5 years of basement-dwelling, only to discover that you've botched the rebuild. Now you're watching the hated Leafs surpass you. And to top it all off, you have to listen to deafening Go Leafs Go chants in your own barn
But come on....we both know that, deep down, you don't truly believe what you wrote there. If your prospect pool is better than Toronto's, you'd better call every single respected hockey authority on earth to let them know. Because clearly they're all wrong
