I'm convinced he is at this point.

I do agree he is asked to do too much, but he was never playing at an elite level at anything but the PP.

Is he fine at 5.4 mil? Absolutely. Is he a franchise #1 Top 10-15 D man? No way

- sbroads24

I think the overrating is a reaction to a portion of the twitter community genuinely believing the guy is a #6. I get it hes not top 15 or whatever but every time i read something like that I just look at the screen and go "bruh" .

Also if you look at the shot map for Ristolainen, a lot of the attempts he gives up are outside the dangerous area. Obviously still a weakness but not one that would lead me to believe in the bottom pairing theory.

I have to disagree. They are pretty bad.

They are outplayed 5 on 5 most of the time.

The top pair is outmatched most of the time, and have a sorry excuse for a middle pair

- sbroads24

This is why forward addition in the top 6has been lower priority for me. The forwards individually (especially the ones added over the years) have all come in with good or very good 5v5 possession numbers. The defence just cant suppress shots to save its life.

Edit: This is also where the "system" is noticeably bad. Parking the bus just gives the other team a ton of shot attempts

Normally there are 2 or 3 postgame player interviews, and a Bylsma postgame interview at the Sabres site.

After last night, we get only Gionta's disgusted appearance on the postgame show.

I wonder why ......

I still say the problem with this team isn't the moves the gm made (has he won every trade? No. Show me a GM that has), or the assets he traded (a word thrown around and, imo, misused on here by many. I mean, do we just want to collect draft picks? That's silly. Murray did what he said he would do, flip some of them, along with prospects. They're not assets unless you use them for something, and whether you think he overpaid or misused them, the fact remains that he turned them into actual NHL players, not a bunch of 'maybes or could be's').

The problem I'm seeing is the coach. His system blows, trying to fit a square peg in a round hole. This team needs to skate and play high tempo, not this New Jersey Devils cr@p he's trying to make work.

We can't discount the injuries, either. Eichel is not at top speed, and he probably won't be until next season. Ennis, love him or loath him, does add a ton of speed and skill. He's a 3 time 20 goal scorer. Our defense hasn't had a single game where it's been fully healthy. Kulikov is a much better player than he's shown and the guy was obviously hurting when he played.

And the hate for Reinhart on here is disturbing. The kid is barely 21 years old, and he's tied with the team lead in points. Not every player has the flash and dash. If he ends up with Bergeron/Krejci numbers (65-70 points consistently), playing the solid game he does, in a boring, clutch and grab league, then that's nothing to sneeze at, and I'll take it.

Murray did it right in this sense: putting respected veterans like Gionta, Gorges, Legwand, O'Reilly, etc around these kids, to show them how to be professionals. While it's not translating to on ice results just yet, I'm confident, with the maturation of these kids who are already here, and a few more pieces (Nylander and Guhle are going to be studs) and a trade or two, this team will be fine. It's not just all about playing hockey for a lot of these kids. Many are living on their own for the first time, with the added responsibilities of cooking their own meals, paying their bills, doing their own laundry, etc etc etc, everyday things that, as adults, we've all had to learn to do. That's a lot to put on 19, 20, 21 year old kids who don't get to even sleep in their own beds half the year. They have a lot to worry about on their off days besides working on their stickhandling.

In conclusion, perhaps they need a new coach/system, and the jury is still out on their goaltending (I hope Murray is able to keep Petersen), but given the injury situation (4th most man games lost this season, I believe) , and that's also without any #1 overall picks and some dead weight in the bottom 6.

Just my thoughts.

Former Jaguars OC Greg Olson, a favorite to become Bills OC, now is planning to become the Los Angeles Rams QB coach, per league source.

That's more asinine than thinking he's a Norris candidate.

IMO he's anywhere from top 25-60.

Yeah, I named 3 players out of the 30 that Murray may have drafted, and did Murray even draft Cal? My point is that you can't keep them all.

We added puppies and kittens for a short while yesterday morning but Lehner chased them away just before he took the selfie during the TV timeout.

My favorite thing about the "Every missed opportunity looks good in in hindsight" argument toward signing free agents and having them fill a role on your team in the short term is that the people who always seem to favor this rebuttal, often end up completely disregarding the concept of foresight and it's usage by a logical mind.

I trust foresight and logic more than being afraid of making a small mistake.

This about the story of Vanek supposedly wanting to play here and the great season he is having.

First, he plays for the most consistent organization in sports. With a lot of young veterans groomed in a fantastic farm system.

What he would have done here on the score sheet doesn't bother me. The guy is always going to be a 20-30 goal guy who has occasional injury-filled years with lower production.

But I think he would have been brilliant as a veteran presence. Especially for a guy like Eichel.

I see that

The negativity and constant emotional rollercoaster is what keeps me away most times. Someone sucks today, but he's great tomorrow, and vice versa, otherwise known as Stafforditis.

Buffalo’s Kyle Okposo reached out to Jack Capuano before the Sabres played in Toronto on Tuesday night. He was disappointed. “Tell you what,” Okposo said. “No one quit on Jack. We liked playing for him.”

Your purported "foresight" and "logic" are utterly contradicted by your decision to post that cartoon the other day. That post, in and of itself, shows that you are unable to gauge what is (and is not) a "small mistake" and don't have the appropriate judgment to know what should (and should not) cause you to be afraid.

What a strange day it is when the Leaf fans are telling us our team isn't as bad as we think.

It's not!we just know your pain (god)knows ! But I like buffalo their crest on their iniform was my second best when I was a kid, sorry Chicago was my first lol ,they played the night before and they showed up! Imo, the city ,people, and I use to cheer for the bills in the 80s. I still watch a bit ,but buffalo is awesome! And the teams not that bad just a couple of pieces or maybe the coach? And don't forget you have a elite center an elite defenseman, an elite winger coming in Nylander and very strong down the middle! Just my two cents
