I remember a quote from Murray about Nylander on WGR. It showed me how old school he was.
Talked about riding the bus and how he needs to do it.
The whole notion that you have to pay your dues to be in the NHL is completely outdated.
If Nylander is better than what the team has and can handle it, he needs to be here. - ImThatGuy
He's not ready. I thought that was apparent in the summer? Not one person disagreed with the notion he wasn't ready for the NHL. |

A)why would we want to accommodate a guy who's best suited for the bottom pair making #2 d-man money? Thats awful value
B) Again it looks like im singling Bogo out but if he was the only bad contract on this team it would be an after thought. The bigger issue is that of the bad contracts hes doing the most harm to the team. Moulsons deal is bad, but hes on the fourth line doing nothing but hurting nobody. We're giving Bogo 22-23 mins a night facing the other teams top 6 and the most positive thing ive heard so far is that he's been servicable for a few games.
Gorges, Ennis, Moulson, Bogosian. Thats four guys with contracts beyond this year totalling to roughly 18.6 mil - Sabresfan-365

yea not like im completely on board with old school thinking but if hes simply not even physically ready none of that talent is going to translate at the pro level. Kind of like Reinhart in his first 9 game trial. |

most people hated vanek here...couldn't wait 'til he was gone...now the sabres should have signed him? - Michael Pachla
Completely agree .......... I'm super surprised Vanek would want to come back to Buffalo. |
|

I agree with this entirely but could you not apply this same logic to some of the deals Murray has already made? Not even considering value just the decision to make them in general, some of these moves are very much of the cart before the horse variety. - Sabresfan-365
He had to take on Moulson and Gionta to get to the cap floor at the time and Gionta has been the best 5 on 5 scorer up until about a week ago. Gorges does not have have a killer contract and he is fine for 5-6 D and veteran presence. Franson, whatever, they needed someone and he is gone after this year and his contract isn't a killer. Darcy gave Ennis his contract and Bogo was part of THE TRADE and isn't as bad as this site makes him out to be. Worth 5 million? Probably not but he'd get 4 +so they are overpaying him a million, not as big a tizzy as it is made out to be here. |

It's not whether we want to accommodate. It's whether we CAN. Nobody ever wants. As things to happen the question is whether you manage them (when they do) and move on or sit and pour dust over your head.
I am of the belief that all four of this contracts can and will be managed - and you still haven't pointed to one time we were blocked from managing them to date. |

maybe, im not even trying to get at the value the timing of these deals still gets me more than anything. Like if they had done a longer rebuild and tried to fill those roles with draft picks instead of trades (gionta, gorges, Franson i don't like but i understand) |

one thing that may have been overlooked. if comparing the two rebuilds is toronto fired all its scouts. and hired winning owners in the CHL. anyone can draft an eichel or mathews. Its those 5th and 7th rounders that turn out that make the difference. Just look at tampa and the ducks. If you know the leafs farm system you see alot of these later picks excelling. Friends that happen to hate the leafs even admit this to me. The leafs have some bright spots coming down the pipe. The sabres are not as bad as its fans are making out. God you guys eat your own. I do think however the sabres should be a little more patient and not traded for or signed some your veterans. |

This is not a slight or anything but Im genuinely missing the point. I dont understand why on earth you'd want to even manage these deals? If you can get better at less money why bother with trying to manage them? It doesn't make any sense |

This. We hired the moron from edmonton who nearly ruined them and team (frank)ing canada. Seriously, how much of an idiot does one have to be to almost screw up the unscrewupable (inscrewupable? ah whatever lol)

it's so typical...run him out of town, watch him produce, lament that he's no longer with the team, get angry because he's not on the team...
wash, rinse, repeat - Michael Pachla
Jeepers, is that really what you Sabres fans do?
You guys are embarrassing.
Here in Leafs Nation, we run a guy out of town, watch him produce, lament that he's no longer with the team, and then blame others for running him out of town, swearing that we knew all along he was a superstar...

That's right and how many guys have been ruined by exposing them to that too early? He'll be with us next year I'm hopeful. |

It took the other nylander almost two years. This team has done enough rushing, call him up when he's ready to handle a top 6 role and only then. Last thing we need is him up with cal o'reilly and deslauriers |

People do realize that Bailey scored 1+1 last game, the same amount of points that Nylander has in his last 10, right? |

I don't take it as a slight - I can't understand how you are missing the point.
As we sit, the franchise must manage the contracts - the deals are done and on our books. So the question isn't whether we could have done better at the time, the question is how is it hurting us now, and can we prevent it from hurting us in the future.
If we presume an owner that is committed to spending up to the cap, the Bogo money is only hurting us if it has already prevented us from signing a better player. I can't identify an instance of that occuring - if you can please let me know.
In the future, the Bogo money will only hurt us if the prevents us from signing another player - and I say that proper cap management will permit us to skirt that possibility in other ways.
The upshot of all my observations in this regard is that the contract may not have great "value" to use your word - but that it doesn't hurt the teams record or standings in the league until it prevents the team from signing better talent (and to repeat, I don't think it has done so). |

It's almost like buying a new truck. Find one and buy it . find out it's not living up to expectations. Your friend got a better truck and at a cheaper price. Your stuck with the payment and truck until you can offload it for what you want. usually at a loss. |
