Jack, we're putting you between Foligno and Gionta.

No. Seriously.

Okay, this was pretty darn funny.

Excellent post Michael ................ I firmly believe we are making progress albeit not soon enough in light of what transpired last night......

PS: I want my goalie pissed by the way when he's pulled.

- fastek

I wouldn't stress one loss.

I think the Sabres started out their rebuild better than just about any I've seen in post cap-era in 2013. So many amazing moves. the Vanek move, then doubling down with the Mouson trade from that, amazing. But they went off the rails. the Myers/Bogosion/Kane trade, no reason for that. And rebuilding teams should not send first round picks out, ever. Not a fan of a few other things either.

All said and done, they've done a decent job, I think they need to find their way again. The momentum has stalled at this point, not lost.

It would probably be a different story, if either you win that lottery and McDavid is a Sabre, or the tank is one year later, and Matthews is a Sabre. You probably wouldn't even be complaining as much if Eichel had played the entire year this year.

So don't stress it too much. And look at the bright side..... Would you rather be an Ottawa Senators fan?

actually murray went after exactly the types of players he wanted

kane--hard skating powerforward with skill
o'reilly--an upper echelon, two way forward with skill and faceoff acumen
bogo--big, strong d-man who could skate and put up a few points
lehner--big goalie who he felt could be a no. 1

all were in their mid-20's and players he considered young-vets and all were brought in to take some heat off the youngis...they became available and he traded away the pieces he needed to land them

- Michael Pachla

I hand to give murray credit for making it happen the way he did. He sadly had to overpay in all of the deals he made in order to crank up the rebuild, and didn't get much help in coming in with the 2nd overall pick both drafts. Getting Eichel instead of mcdavid was a huge misfortune. Murry never got lucky

We must have used up all our luck capital when we won the spin of the wheel to get Gilbert Perreault over the Canucks who had to settle for Dale Tallon.

We need to stop acting like Eichel isn't going to be a top 10 NHL player soon, because he will be.

He's already scored as much as the elites have through his first 100 games (Not Corsby elite, but Tavares, Stamkos etc)

Get lucky now! Come in 3rd, steal Patrick from Colorado.

I think Carrier looked good last night. I wouldn't be surprised if Foligno is left unprotected or even traded at the deadline and Carrier is protected. Foligno has put in some goals. You know what some say about Kane? Sell high. He has never tickled my fancy
- GilPerreault11

Foligno is a perfect 3rd to 4th line winger with the way he plays, especially for the playoffs, but the problem is twofold.

A. He can't make much more than he is making now
B. They have a number of players who could easily take his place and will be ready as early as next year

He could be one of the odd man out, unfortunately.

true enough...this team is not bad...they didn't even play a bad game last night...tbh, the leafs were kinda lucky to get out of there with a regulation win...despite some in the media saying inconsistency does nothing but cloak a bad team, this team is, and will be, better than we've seen and it will be due to players returning from injury as well as them playing the brand of hockey they're capable of playing on a consistent basis

I don't. But guess what, he cost nothing to get here, and will probably net an asset as a return.

Like people on here have said for YEARS, and Homie and DD can back me up on this.

You can find wingers everywhere, and for cheap that will produce.

WE don't for some reason. We trade multiple assets for them, or sign them to 7 year deals.

For the price of just Okposo, we could have Marchessault+Vanek+ Gagner. All 3 guys with similar production this year.

And I really like Okposo. He's a good player. And this isn't me criticizing him.

- sbroads24

I think your point overall is that it can be a mixture of both, meaning you can sign a guy like Okposo and make it even more valuable by getting someone like you mention above for a cheap deal, thereby making the production doubly effective at a lesser combined rate of pay.

That said, the inherit risk with guys like you mentioned above, along with others such as Vrbata and Eaves, is that they may be great value for their cheap contract or they could be a total bum, but I agree that even if they are a total bum, they are cheap and on a one year deal so no long term harm is done.

Normally there are 2 or 3 postgame player interviews, and a Bylsma postgame interview at the Sabres site.

After last night, we get only Gionta's disgusted appearance on the postgame show.

I wonder why ......

I have to disagree. They are pretty bad.

They are outplayed 5 on 5 most of the time.

The top pair is outmatched most of the time, and have a sorry excuse for a middle pair

If they had an even remotely reliable second pairing, the first pairing would look light years better.

It would also help them not having to play 25-30 minutes nearly every game.

I don't think Ristolainen is anywhere near overrated.

I think he's been asked to do a ton the past 2+ seasons under very difficult conditions.

I'm convinced he is at this point.

I do agree he is asked to do too much, but he was never playing at an elite level at anything but the PP.

Is he fine at 5.4 mil? Absolutely. Is he a franchise #1 Top 10-15 D man? No way

If they can get another one like him, they will be in very good shape on defense, assuming they can offload some of the clowns they currently have.

I think he's a solid 2/1B.

I agree, we need another at that caliber at the least

Former Jaguars OC Greg Olson, a favorite to become Bills OC, now is planning to become the Los Angeles Rams QB coach, per league source.

From NHL rumors.com

Scott Burnside of ESPN: Despite his off-ice issues, teams could be interested in Sabres winger Evander Kane. The 25-year old has 11 goals in 32 games. Would the Sabres move him if they received a blue-chip defensive prospect in return? Kane could be a fit in Vancouver, his hometown.

Anybody hear of any rumblings lately?

This could also be a hint that they don't plan on bringing back Tyrod. Who wants to run an offense with no QB?

yup, they've struggled for a number of reasons and because of it they're at the lower end of a group of average teams
