I think the Sedins would look good on any team making half of what they make now.

Now that is a more honest assessment๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘

this seems like an interesting report on Canucks prospects for anyone who hasn't seen it...

Poll time....

Would any team trade for a Kopitar @$10m per if cap space?
He will only be at least 36yrs old when his contract expires.

Brent Sutter nailed it with his assessment back in 2013

Exactly.

When we drafted him, everyone on this board (back when there was some real quality posters) formed a rare consensus that pegged him as topping out as a solid shutdown 3rd/4th line center.

He's showing that progress pretty well in my eyes.
It's exceedingly difficult to acquire, in their prime, guys like Malhotra, Laich , Eakins, Gordon, Moore etc.

You have to draft them, sometimes in the first round.

I can't wait until Boeser comes here next year and is the next Alexander Ovechkin

You have to give the kid an โ€œAโ€ in the class department, knowing no matter what he says, the proof will come on the ice anyway.

Who knows, maybe if the nucks make playoffs He could sign after his college year and get some games in this year?

I don't get the Gaunce hate.
The guy played junior mainly as a high level defensive center, was billed and drafted as such and continues to demonstrate that skill at the NHL level. His offense will mature.

Here's an example (not saying Gaunce will be anything like him). Look at this dudes first few seasons.

28 games, 5 pts.
82 games, 23 pts.
48 games, 16pts.

This thread would have destroyed the above player during his developing years.

His name was Ryan Kesler.

I'm on board with this. Be patient. He'll be an ok bottom 6 guy.

Most had him topping out as a 3C with intangibles. All first rounders aren't created equal, he was drafted right at the end of the 1st round.

No it's not, look at the percentages. There's always first rounders (let alone late one's like Gaunce) that bust out, failing to even make the league.

You know that scrub we got around in the bottom six, Jack Skille?
He was drafted 7th overall.

You want to know another scary stat?
Gaunce, be it in Junior or Utica, has/did actually progress at a better rate then Virtanen.

Put that in yo pipe and smoke it.

Top Dmen of the 2016 draft class at the midway mark.

#5 - Juolevi. OHL - 8 goals - 28 pts in 32 gp.
#9 - Sergachev. OHL - 4 goals - 21 pts in 24gp.
#13 - Bean. WHL - 3 goals - 18 pts in 15gp.
#14 - McAvoy. NCAA - 3 goals - 14pts in 20gp.
#16 - Chychrun. NHL - 2 goals, 8 pts in 35gp.

Though its impossible to compare offensive totals among differing leagues and levels, OJ stacks up nicely against the best of em. (Coming from a guy who wanted Tkachuk and wasn't even sure we picked the best D at the 5 spot).

- Whiskey-Tango

Nice list...watching Juolevi play is a treat. He makes decisions faster than anyone on the ice
