I think the Flyers have a great crop of young defensive prospects...it's the forwards I'm worried about. Some decent sounding offensive players, but no "generational talents" in that mix. - aantny88
Which will always be hard to get unless they are finishing in the top of the draft. And of course the year they do suck they lose the draft lottery to Chicago.

I see German Rubtsov made his QMJHL debut last night. 6 shots 2 assist and named third star of the game. Anyone happen to see the game or hear of any other reports on his game last night? - MrPerfect316

Ekblad is overpaid compared to other young dmen like Ristolainen and Lindholm. I wouldn't give up a ton for him. - Feanor
Yah I remember, but, hextal wanted that young blue chip dman to build a team around. They don't come along too often. When he felt it was too mcu, I think they also wanted Simmonds and schenn too, he walked away. Which was a good long term plan because he got his kid in provy and along with the other d prospects that will build out his d to how he wants it. I wouldn't be surprised to see forwards taken early in this draft coming up, they tend to develop quicker then d and goalies. |

After reviewing a list of to-be free agents I have come to the conclusion I would like to sign 1 of Justin Williams, Patrick Sharp, or Patrick Berglund this offseason. I think Berglund could help as 3rd line center and after all the talk of our core needing a shake up and our team lacking leadership, I think Williams or Sharp would be a great veteran winger with that leadership voice and presence. Especially after Streit's departure. - arichardson22
Both Sharp and Williams would be 35+ deals. They're players that probably are going to want to sign with a team that is a contender. So not sure if it's a fit. Berglund would have to take a pay cut for me to have interest. |

I think Ristolianen is overrated if I were to pick a name out of those three. Anyway, what I am talking about was on draft day in 2014. Where it would've come down to the Flyers giving up Morin+the pick for Sanheim for first overall (and more). I am happy it didn't happen. |

Have to agree.
Not sure there are really any UFA's that interest me this year. Maybe a couple RFA but in the UFA class nothing I want to actually spend money on. |

Fine I will do it now, but I won't include the statistics.
I think everyone wants that generational talent, guy who can score 40, guy who can put up 80+ points, but look at the winners of the Stanley Cup in the modern NHL. There are very few "generational talents" known for scoring.
I would say Crosby/Malkin obviously, Kane, Datsyuk (during his scoring prime but always an amazing defender)
What has Ovechkin won? What has Stamkos won? What has Seguin/Benn won? How many points did the leading scorer for Boston have when they won? The Kings had two incredible years from Kopitar, but they were not known for elite offense, they were elite at controlling play.
That is what Hextall is building (again). They might not get that 80 point elite first line forward, but that doesn't mean they can't assemble a dominant team that is capable of winning several playoff games and ultimately a Stanley Cup. There is more than one way to skin a cat. A generational scorer would be fantastic, but it is by no means a necessity to win a cup. |

I would like to see us hold off until 2018 and make a run on Tavares for 1 C/Giroux 2 C or flip Giroux to wing next to Tavares.
By then our D will have the youngsters embedded...Konecky will be seasoned, Lindbolm may be a solid contributor and the 4th line should be infused with some talent.

Hextall has made it clear that at the present time, he has no interest in moving youth or picks for veterans. However, he has never said that he wouldn't consider moving youth or picks for other young players. So there is no reason that he wouldn't be kicking the tires on deals for a guy like Duclair.

I ageee both would want to go to a contender, but with Sharp's down season and injuries this year maybe the interest wouldn't be mutual from a contender. And hey if the Caps win this year maybe Williams wants to come home. All hypothetical thoughts obviously, but I'd imagine they both would seek 1-2 year deals. Sharp has had a tough season but Williams still can find the net (16 Goals). |

Washington doesn't need to win a cup. We just got to look like the better option to win the cup than them |

Your not going to be able to have Giroux, Voracek, Tavares all making something in the 8mil cap hit range.
I would trade Giroux at that point. |

Great points.
You look at the teams that have won the Stanley cups, almost all of them, had an elite #1 d-man.
To me the elite #1 D-man is more important then an 80 point guy or a 40 goal guy.
The big points guys are sexy but to your point, they don't mean a cup is coming to town.
Hopefully one of the Flyers young D-men can become that elite D-man.

I would be looking to swap Laughton for another prospect.
Laughton for Duclair would be interesting. But you still might have to add a pick or something since Duclair is a little more established.
BUt with Duclair having a down year I am not sure I can give a lot more then laughton right now. |
