Think he was talking about the defence - Sabresfan-365
yup
here is the whole thing
Its sad that the D-Men GMTM brought in to supplement the ones he's traded are overpaid and haven't lived up to any hype. Some of that is due to injuries and some just flat out bad play.
- mattsox
who has he brought in:
gorges - sucks
bogosian - mostly sucks
franson - mostly sucks
kulikov - no clue he is always injured
Fulk - meh alright for a #9 guy
fedun - by far his best pick up
nelson - yet to be determined
thats not an impressive list |

Yes, the Sabres are a bad team. They sit in 28th place out of 30.
That's bad.
They suck at home.
That goal song has to go. |

For those......who are....fixated...on 5 v 5 points...
1) Gionta - 20
2) Reinhart - 16
3) Foligno - 15
What this tells me...Gionta and Foligno should be very attractive come trade deadline...and Reinhart is doing just fine, despite the claims of many on this board
and if you are wondering...with the exception of Jack because of the amount of games he missed.....
Okposo - 13
Kane - 13
ROR - 12
Risto - 11
Girgs - 11

or go door to door (desk to desk i guess on draft day lol) giving teams really big offers. They'll likely have to empty the cupboard to solve this problem. - Sabresfan-365
Isn't the much better idea targeting each of the Ducks and Hurricanes and trying to pull one of their younger D players on entry level deals, thereby having to give less than what it would take for a Lindholm, for example, that way you keep more of your assets while still getting what you need?
Yes, I know that is risky because those young guys are not nearly as known of a commodity as a Lindholm, but it could also pay off massively. |

As lame as our D is, I feel the team would be way better off in the standings if a few things were to happen consistently:
Top guys (especially those with huge contracts) score. ROR, Okposo what have you done for me lately?
We get a goal once in a f'ing blue moon from our D. Is it the system that creates the anemic scoring from our D? I don't know...but we must be last in D-men scoring.
DD adjusts better throughout games. There have been some pleasant surprises when we've been down and come back, and some times we've held the lead, but I feel we get outcoached more often than not.
Do we even have any true breakaway goals this year? I think I recall Foligno having one some time ago...(crickets). Again, is it the system or bad D making bad passes and forwards with their heads up their assses? |

Its our system..the team in interviews routinely alludes to it...and Disco's system preaches defense first.....the players look like they are afraid to make mistakes.

They sunk the it could route a long time ago. If you're going to build a team this way (my agreeing with it irrelevant it is what it is) then you have to commit to it. You can't make these kinds of moves and then to take the next step bet on 2 relative unknowns to help round out your blueline. Backtracking now will only hurt the team more.

Oh c'mon...what you think Bogosian's going to go in to his post game interview snort a line of coke and say "yea i (frank)ing suck but im getting billssszzzz"? Players going to sell out his coach long before he admits he's part of the problem.
They don't have the skill level to open things up and take those risks. Bylsma's system is bad but what's worse is it's not even the main problem with this team. |

Well most nights it makes for boring hockey. I wouldn't mind boring so much if we won more than we lose, but this crap we've been seeing has got to go imo. |

I think in bylsma's head he's thinking if we play super defensive we might win a few and only lose by a bit...open things up we'll still only win a few but lose big. |

They do have the skill..you can see it when the team decides to skate and play aggressive on the forecheck...
are we a cup contender? not yet...do we have the necessary pieces to make the playoffs? yes.
for christ sake..disco replaced Larsson with Eichel! |

How do we know? The team hasn't played that way since the Nolan tank years. We did not have ROR, Jack, Okpo, Kane back then. McCabe is just coming into his own now and I know he's capable of more than 2 goals a year than he's on pace for right now. God, I wish they'd take the training wheels off and see what we can do because the defense-first system has us in 28th place. |

This team has maybe 1 and half d-men who can make a proper breakout pass with any sort of regularity and exactly 0 d-men who are league wide recognized as being smart defensively.
We have the pieces up front, shame we can never get them the puck, at least 5v5. |

I think we'd be there either way. 28th looks worse then it actually is aren't they on pace for a similar amount of points as they had last year? |

It's pretty comical for a defensive first coach our Penalty kill is dead last and our defense and our forwards are terrible defensively |
