I was reading an article today talking about Luongos contract, if he retires early, does the penalty come out of the cap space? like if he retired one year early would we need to free up 8mill? or just out of owners pockets? - phyllee
I think i remember one of the analysts saying that the actual cap hit was like a little over 3 million a year, but i might be wrong |

I really want to see Hansen traded. He's been one of my favourites for a long time but we need to move him at his highest value. - golfingsince
Highest value? An injury plagued season with minimal results? I would be cool with moving him for a 2nd. Teams would be hesitant to trade much as they may lose him in the expansion draft. My point being his remaining term won't hold value |

Cap space but it isn't 8 million all at once. I can't remember exactly how it works. |

I see the plan to, build up the prospect pool starting from the goalie out. Benning wants a killer d first and foremost with great goaltending, forwards will be his last priority. - Bettmanhatesus
Right.
When he first assessed the roster, he saw a need to get some youth in the lineup and traded some draft picks/prospects to make that happen.
Some worked out (SVen Granlund), some didn't (Clendenning, Vey).
People seem to think that he will perpetually trade youth in an attempt to unearth further gems, but i don't.
I think he's really really clear with what he does and what he plans to do, but some look to read between the lines and search for clues that aren't there.
He has stated what he intends to do this year and until he says otherwise (if the situation changes drastically between now and TDL), i assume that's what we will do. |

I tell my son not to laugh at the names of people, like who really gets to pick their name unless you are Prince or Puffy or other entertainment star.
but, I still laugh. |

The boss walked in too.....
They funny thing is I quite like Sutter and was happy with swapping him over Bonino from day one. His contract on the other hand not as much but it isn't that big of a deal. I just think this board, not just you in particular, look at things in a vacuum. - belcherbd
i didn't mind the trade and saw the logic in it.
however, it isn't being a drama queen to criticize benning for the contract especially without sutter playing a game for the team before it was finalized.
it doesn't have to be totally one way or the other. |

I'm on the fence with him but absolutely if they can get a decent return.
I think they should also be considering moving Sbisa and Sutter not because they are bad player but because they have value and likely aren't critical pieces of the core moving forward. |

If he comes back healthy there will be time to move him where he's still cost controlled for another season, hence highest value. |

My point is other teams won't care that he is cost controlled. Take any contenders roster. Do they protect Hansen over there own? Not likely. He would be a pure rental |

It's a coping mechanism, I just picture the poster with their thumb in their mouth when I hear "drama queen", "sky is falling", "biopolar" etc. |

I think it's time to move him (has value, younger players can/should fill his role, protect Granlund/SVen), but he seems to be integral to the Sedin's success, is a great mentor and could possibly get more value in off season. |

Granlund is starting to play very similar to Hansen I've noticed, really pesky on the forecheck. I would only want to see Hansen go if the return is worth it, same with Burrows and I dont see a team putting a huge package together for either |
