My point is other teams won't care that he is cost controlled. Take any contenders roster. Do they protect Hansen over there own? Not likely. He would be a pure rental
- CanuckDon

I think many of the contenders would protect him, although some wouldn't.

Cap space but it isn't 8 million all at once. I can't remember exactly how it works.

Granlund is starting to play very similar to Hansen I've noticed, really pesky on the forecheck. I would only want to see Hansen go if the return is worth it, same with Burrows and I dont see a team putting a huge package together for either
- Crazybagoham

Return would have to consider the risk of leaving Granlund unprotected.

I would like to see us move on from Hansen, as much as i like/appreciate his work.

Hansen to Mtl, Pitts, NYI for a 2nd.

There's a dude I remember my parents knowing when I was young whose last name D!ck. Why someone with that last name would name their kid Harry I'll never know
- NorthNuck

funny but the poor guy didn't get to pick his name... or I guess he could have decided to go by a middle name.

I remember in high school playing soccer against another team and a guy's last name was Ng, and hearing someone making fun of him because it lacked a vowel.

but sometimes you can't help laughing if there is some wit in a diss, even if it is lowbrow or a bit ignorant.

I'm on the fence as well.

I think it's time to move him (has value, younger players can/should fill his role, protect Granlund/SVen), but he seems to be integral to the Sedin's success, is a great mentor and could possibly get more value in off season.

- dbot

i think you may be right.

i thought last summer was a great time to trade him but so is this off season. he would be a full year rental at a great price. a contender could use that contract to balance a high priced off season signing.

It's pretty simple isn't it?

Granlund + 2nd > Hansen

right.

although it's just a 'risk' of losing him, not for sure.

i still think if we left Granlund and Sbisa unprotected, LV would snap up Sbisa in a hearbeat.

I think it likely comes down to how his play is. If he can be a difference maker in a playoff run and they feel they can repeat, I'm sure they make space for him.

The other thing to consider is a team like the Pens or the wild might be exposing better forwards or a quality D or Goalie and it won't matter if Hansen is exposed.

Which is why we should trade him now.

That's (frank)ing insane..... I have a feeling Luongo will retire, we will be on the hook. Hossa will retire and the league will change the rules....

Sure if you can get an awesome return. As well as Sbisa has played this year, I still think you trade him regardless of the return, within reason.

What's insane is that the contracts went through the league office as legit and then recapture came out afterwards.

Yup, there are many cases of cap circumvention or at the very least finding loopholes.

The Hossa, Luongo ( I know there are others but can't think of them off the top of my head) were loopholes but still within the rules. Punishing the teams for them retroactively reeks of pettiness.
