This is all just nonsense, but to play devil's advocate...

You give up things to get him into the fold, convince him that Vancouver rules and is a place to put down roots and get a head start on negotiating a contract, as opposed to being one of many offers when he's a free agent.

Whoever trades for him if that is ever happening ( stay tuned for off season) will do it with a deal in place to be signed. It's all contingent once players involved are agreed on. Otherwise no point to make that gamble with major assets.

I like JV and am happy to have him to develop in the minors for now.
If he turned into a Kassian, well then i'd be happy to pull the trigger now and get Kane extended obviously...but if JV develops into a Kane of his own...

Subban to the Eastcoast just makes sense.
I'd be fine to throw him in on a deal, as he's so buried on our depth chart.
