He seemed a little douchy but who would you rather have in the lineup today?

Chaput, Smegma or McCann?

or maybe it doesn't really matter if they are all stop gaps?

- hillbillydeluxe

I'd rather have Gudbranson than McCann and Asplund , not sure if other comparisons are relevant as that's the players that were exchanged.

See there you go saying they'll become something they aren't again.

You don't think Sutter is a good 3rd line center?

It's no more bold than saying Sutter or EG will become something more than they are now, considering he's 5 years younger than one and 7 younger than the other?
- golfingsince

Except that both Sutter and EG have established themselves as guys that can consistently play at an NHL level, whereas McCann may or may not play in the NHL. I don't disagree that he could turn out very good, but he has much further to go and is much more likely to fail for that reason than established players in their mid-20's. If I had to choose 10 players under 25 on florida, McCann wouldn't be on the list.

Some folks don't like big mean hockey players. Let's fill our roster out with some more undersized muffins and see how we fair in the playoffs. Ferland beat us by himself in the playoffs

Do I prefer a high end 3rd line center or a No 4 dman? Ummm. I guess I would choose EG.
- CanuckDon

I think what he's asking you is do you prefer a 4.375 mil 3rd line centre or a potential 5+ mil #4 Dman.

While others believe that since we have the BFG Tryamkin, we are set on D and Guds is expendable.

i like em both.

If i had to choose, for this current lineup, i would say Guds has more value.

He's 79th among C in PPG, I wouldn't call that elite.

okay.

I know JB has said he is happy with Guddy, but I wonder if he would honestly have made that trade if he had known how well Tryamkin would play this year?

I keep thinking back on when MG traded for Ballard and then ended up signing Hamhuis. would MG have not made that trade if he had known he'd be able to sign Hamhuis?

ah feck it, whats done is done.
on me.

maybe I should just be happy that our gm identified a problem and addressed it.

to me this goes back to the burn it to the ground vs try to compete now discussion.

i wasn't adamantly opposed to the trade and thought it filled a big need the nucks have had for a while.

however, from a philosophical approach to a rebuild, i don't like trading prospects and picks for players (even if they are about to hit their prime.)

as golfing pointed out earlier, the cost certainty involved with young players is valuable in itself.

now, the team will be paying big money to players while the team wallows in mediocrity. by the time the team hopes to compete, those same players will probably need new and bigger ufa deals.

cap space is valuable... especially for a rebuilding team.

PPG doesnt dictate a good 3rd line center. He wins faceoffs, kills penalties, goes into our top 6 sometimes.... exactly what we wanted out of him...

Gudbranson is a beast, people are acting like we traded barzal and a 2nd for a bust...injury season cant wait to see what he brings when healthy and knows the teams systems

I think JB would have made the trade, regardless.
I think he won that trade myself and I see Guds as an established pro, while Traymakin still has a long ways to go (consistency).
I imagine we'll see the all too common sophmore slump with Tree next year and Guds will be in a mentoring role with him, which is a plus.

I hear your point re Ballard, but again, if he played as well as we had hoped when he was acquired, i don't think anyone would be complaining...it's b/c he stunk it up and was oft injured that the trade is looked at unfavorably.

All 3rd line C's kill penalties and win face-offs. The elite ones also score, especially when they move into the top 6.

JB isn't getting nearly the credit he deserves for what he's done to this blueline (going out and getting stecher, convincing tryamkin to come over).
