I said short term. Colorado don't have to trade Duchene now. And you don't need to sell the farm to get him. - deadpoulet
they don't need Hanzal. they already have Plek and DD to suck. they need offense. so yeah Tavares, Duchene... pay up or die. |

Well, they will most likely die this year then. |

Guys like Duchene or Tavares are not rentals and are not likely to be traded during the season. See the Subban/Weber trade and Hall/Larsson. The expansion draft makes it worse. |

some people forget that to get quality you need to give quality, not quantity. Unless a team needs to unload a player.
Shero said Hall was the only player the Oilers had (McDavid untouchable) that would let them part with Larsson.
Bergevin and Poile both said the trade happened because of each player they were getting in return
/poulnut alliance formed. |

Depends of the trade or the situation.
We have seen star players being traded for a package of players/picks a lot of time. Kessel, Hamilton, Seguin come to mind in recent time.
That was not my point anyway. I was talking about the timing of such trades. They don't happen in the middle of the season, but during the summer.

leafs felt the need to trade kessel because of the culture
bruins traded seguin because of his life style
they traded hamilton because they couldn't afford him
canadiens, preds, oilers and devils made those deals because they felt it made their teams better.

What the frank are you talking about with our alliance?
We are saying the same thing anyway. I said it depends of the situation or the trade in question. It's not always star for star trades.
But yeah, you are not getting Duchene for Desharnais. |

Only way Garth's year could get better is if the Sabres beat the Leafs in OT and Eichel scored the winner |

They didn't have to trade Letang to get their guy. That's the thing.
Who knows what the asking price for Duchene would be. And about trading Price, they don't have the depth to pull this off, unless maybe a goalie is coming back. Or they pull something out of their ass in another trade or maybe a ufa (but do you want Fleury or Bishop to replace Price? Don't think so). |

who says they have to trade a big piece? maybe COL (or NYI), like TOR last year, would be ready to take picks and prospects. with Plek obviously, so the cap works for MTL.
of course it will cost a lot. Duchene (or Tavares) is a good player, signed to a decent contract, not a UFA... but if they want to have a chance at the cup, they have to move.
with the current lineup they don't have much chances, if none at all. |

you think PIT would pay full retail for Kessel? They gave up almost nothing AND Toronto is still paying some of Phil's salary. Toronto wanted to get rid of him and everyone knew it. The Avs don't want and don't need to trade Duchene.
And that was an offseason trade. |
