It's great we got the two wins but this is what they've been doing all year.

Win a few and get everyone's hopes up. Lose most important matchups. Then win more to get everyone's hopes up, and on and on

- chilliard77

It sucks that we gave a point to Detroit, but these were both divisional games which are important. Maybe not Montreal so much, because unless Price gets hurt long term again, there's no way we catch them.

It's the style, so if you want to say it's a Ruff problem, fine, but at least they play offense; isn't that what you're always female dogging about?
- Wetbandit1

Jesus Christ.

"Goalies struggle under Ruff" as in, Miller had some "average" numbers under Ruff.

You seem to like to jump in mid debate and completely miss the point all the time.

I hate to be negative because I'd love to believe they could go on a run, but we've been seeing this all year
- chilliard77

I agree. I would love to see us win 4-5 in a row but the wheels seem to fall off every time we get a little momentum going

I'm making a different point.

Miller was so much better than Lehner it's not even funny. Miller was so much better than Biron it's not even funny. There. Happy?

Edit: And for the record I was in at the beginning.

These were mildly important, but not the most important games.

If we can win the next one or two, then maybe I'll change my tune.

I don't disagree. Tonight was important in the sense that it's a game, and we need the points. But last night was more so. A team right ahead of us in the standings needed to be caught and leap frogged, and we only gained a point, but that's better than losing a point, or 2.

And my point was that aside from the Vezina season, Miller's numbers were average.

His arguments actually kind of support your "So much better" argument here because it would mean that Ruff's system rode goalies a lot and the awful numbers by decent goalies in Dallas this year would be indicative of his system not being good for goalies.

Meaning that Miller's stats don't show how good he actually was in his prime.

Yeah, I never said Ruff was good on goalies. His system now is pretty much full attack, as much as it can be in today's game. That's hard on goalies, but that said Lehtonen and Niemi are not "good goalies". Lehner is better than both of them. Hell, Biron was better than both of them. There's a bit of a problem with backup goalies and their stats though. Is that they often get the easier match up, and they don't play 10-12 games in a row unless the #1 gets hurt, so they're both fresher for the games they do play, and they usually play weaker teams. That's why you'll see backups that have better numbers than the #1. That's why Jimmy Howard, Scott Darling, Keith Kinkaid and Antti Raanta are all in the top 10 in SV%.

I think playing for Lindy Ruff did a number on some goalies here. And it's not a coincidence that goaltending is Dallas's issue now.

Miller had some fantastic games like the one Lehner had tonight. And had an insane record when facing 40+ shots

- sbroads24

LOL .. Miller loved playing for Lindy as he desired/desires the heavy workload. I'm also interested to know how the goal-tending in Dallas is somehow on Lindy.

Lehtonen hasn't had a season of above .910 since Lindy got there. He never had a below .910 year before that

Niemi has also had his two career worst years under Ruff.

It's a Ruff problem

I'll go a step further and say Miller wasn't much of a drop from Hasek.

I'm pretty sure I did. Lehtonen, and Niemi have never been worse under anyone one else.

Lindy is an offensive coach, who relies on goalies to bail the team out

They don't have the right goalies to play his style ...... that much I give you. Gotta be elite to begin with ....... neither are.

But to imply he ruins goalies (if that's what you are saying) is ridiculous.

I didn't mean he ruins them. It's just not goalie friendly

I won't go that far. Hasek is arguably the best ever.
