I don't care abut Lehner's save percentage, that's been brought up countless times now through the year. You don't have to tell me about Bogo and his contract, I know. - SABRES 89
Forming opinions on players while disregarding stats that don't fit your narrative is not the way to build a successful argument.
Lehner is, statistically, an above average goalie |

1. It's not Lehner's fault Murray gave up what he did to acquire him, I don't think the trade was done to do uncle BRYAN a favor, I found it hard to believe Murray does anybody favors. Murray drafted Lehner and has a strong belief that Robin can be a #1 goalie in this league.
2. If Bogosian is playing in the 5-6 role next year, it doesn't matter what he is being paid if Guhle is playing on a rookie contract and Fedun is making Vet minimum. I don't think the fans would be too happy for very long with a Guhle- Fedun pairing, you would need to mix and match them with other D-men.
3. Let's see what Bylsma can do when he has a healthy line-up and removes some dead weight from the roster and adds faster prospects which should happen in waves.
4. Girgs is a place holder until the prospects get here or until he proves difficult to move.
5. Last year of his Gionta's deal, move him if you get a solid offer, otherwise he finishes the year as Captain.
6. Move him if you get a fair offer and if we are healthy enough to do so.
7. Anybody who wants to trade Rhino ought to have his head examined, he will solid for years to come, in a Dale Hawerchuck sort of way.
8. People will be wondering how Matt Moulson is still on the team, maybe because he and Okposo convinced John Tavares to come to Buffalo - macman9
1. Agreed 100%. European scout Anders Forsberg also believes Lehner hasn't even come close to reaching his potential yet.
2. I hope Bogo gets picked up by Vegas in the expansion draft but Murray might protect him to save face on the Winnipeg deal. If they don't pick up a dman in free agency (i.e. Alzner) or trade (De Haan) you will see Guhle in the 2nd pairing.
3. Disagree. Bylsma needs to get his pink slip at season's end. Gallant or Scott Gordon, maybe Julien if he's let go or even Dave Tippett if AZ fires him. We can be better there.
4. Agree. He might be on the move at the deadline.
5. I don't think Gio gets moved. I wouldn't have a problem with re-signing him on a 1 year deal as long as it doesn't take a spot away from Bailey and Baptiste, as it could.
6. I'm assuming you are talking about Gionta.
7. Yep.
8. I know many don't like Moulson but imo he looks better this year, definitely engaged on the ice. His contract is awful but I don't have an issue if he stays. If a team wants him (Carolina, NJ, Fla) to get to the floor next season, fine. We have $24M in cap space next year so his contract isn't a total albatross.

Yes, correct I seen that also. Ventura was the pitcher that was pitching the last time Marte played in the majors. |

Lehner did literally just get pulled after letting in a garbage goal the game before. He made up for it. Good for him. He still has a long way to go to be a legit #1 goalie in this league.
I think he can be if he can get a hold of the rebound issue. |

That's a big IF, since a lot of goaltender's downfall is rebound control. And he's one of the worst I have ever seen. |

He's got size and his positioning is sound. His reflexes are good. The more playing time he sees, he'll figure out how to kick out rebounds to the right area. Rebound control is also a function of knowing where your d will be and what they like. Given time to settle in it should get cleaned up |

I think he will be a legitimate #1 in this league, just not necessarily a championship caliber one.
His numbers are okay, and what I would want from a team like this...if the price to get him wasn't what it was. He may or may not be a better goaltender than Nilsson at this point. I really don't know, but the fact that it is even a conversation speaks to the fact too much value was given up for Robin Lehner. The Robin Lehner trade ultimately won't be the factor in deciding ultimately whether or not this will be a good team. However, it may very well be the one that prevents them from being a great one, because moves like this are simply ones that great teams do not make. |

I suppose the big question is whether that's because he's covering up defensive flaws or if a defensive system is covering up his flaws. Its honestly hard to tell. I think he can be a #1 too, and i didn't like the value given up for him but on a list of things wrong with this team hes' like 15th. |

There isn't so much "wrong" with him so much as if I'm giving up a first for him, I want an absolute gamebreaker, and he's not that either. |

That's true an ultimately why there's misdirected disdain for him. Should be directed at the guy who made the deal. (not saying you specifically, making a general point) |

He was a game breaker last night. The price is the price. You don't need Henrik lundqvist to win a cup. Hell, he hasn't even won a cup. You need antti niemi or Chris Osgood or Fleury to have e a spectacular run during the playoffs. I think he can do that |

That's pretty much it. It's not Robin Lehner himself, so much as the philosophy that says the team needed to pay a high price for Robin Lehner that is wrong with the team.
Last night was great, but it's not the norm. If it was, Tim Murray would be a genius. |

That "price" was still better served addressing bigger needs on this team.
The Robin Lehner we saw last night, while great, was the exception, not the rule. |

It wasn't a first overall, it was the back end of the 1st rd at 21. Colin White, although a nice prospect could be a bust or more likely a 3rd/4th line winger. |

The fact that the discussion is even worth having, let alone if it is true or not, says all you need to say about the deal. It would be different, though, if Nilsson was a guy that came up through the Sabres' system, but he isn't either. A guy who you gave up much less for is, at a minimum, giving you almost as much as the guy you gave up a first rounder for. |
