While I agree we are a better club with them in the lineup having them here doesn't turn us into a 105 pt team...we are an 85 pt team at best and we need to accept the reality that they most likely won't be part of a winning process in the next 2-4 years...maybe 5. The time is getting to be now to move them as their injury status is just too risky long term. - LordHumungous

Each to their own. Who do you see as a game changing forward in the 10-20 slot of the draft? |

Still well out of the playoffs. I don't mind Edler/Tanev's mentorship but I do believe it's a huge risk keeping them for 3-4 more years. Like Hamhuis...there comes a time where we need to let go and it's happening sooner rather than later IMO.
Like you said draft a D (Cal Foote) this year and keep Hutton to see where he goes. With Tree, Stecher, Hutton, Juolevi, Gudbranson, maybe even Sbisa/Subban our D looks OK without Edler/Tanev moving forward. |

Juolevi will be with the Canucks sooner than 3 seasons. Kostin, Vesalainen, Peterrsoson, Andersson, Rasmussen? Should be plenty of solid forward prospects available when we draft. Lots of Swedes for you
Edit. Scoring goals is fun. Our team isn't fun. Let's draft somebody than can let us have fun |

I know for years I said trade them but now that they are our two best I don't think you can now. A team rebuilding needs some stability.
Juolevi should be ready maybe in 3 years and eventually will replace Edler but for now the person to move is Hutton.
Draft another Dman this summer and in two years you can make another big trade - VANTEL
I don't see the point in moving Hutton, we still don't know what he is. He won't fetch much of a return and might still be our best D prospect.
If we are going to move players, it should be guys who their value is known to league. Sutter, Tanev, Sbisa, Edler, Eriksson, Gudbranson, Burrows, Hansen, Miller and Markstrom should be the only players being considered IMO.
I'm not sure what you think the value of Hutton is but my guess would be similar to what Colorado payed for Gelinas, a 3rd round pick. |

Nashville is proof of loading up on D. That Johansen/Jones trade is what can happen when you have a loaded backend. One Dman goes and they don't miss a beat.

Its funny how the emergence of a draft pick or 2, and a great free agent signing D man has thrown us into needing D just over a year ago, to being able to expose 1 or 2 through trade. |

Game changers are drafted every year in the 10-20 slot, you just need to be good or lucky to get them.

Thanks,
I am just pointing out the life in canuck land is not all well and good, not sunshine and roses.
I believe the team lacks quality top 2 line players, and for all the praise that is being handed out to the defense is great, for a bottom team, and really really suspect for a top end team. - Makita
The team D overall is very solid but yes we lack the offense to be consistently good.
It shows up too often eg the PP as a prime example. |

Suck? They are in the playoffs right now. They did have some struggles at the start of the year but things have changed for them. They are currently with out their top 2 dman and are still winning. Suck?

More importantly though, they haven't been drafting their D with their first rounders for the most part. |

You don't have to trade. I guess you can have them sitting in the press box |

You don't have to trade at all. But you should always be looking at ways to improve your team if you have an abundance of a certain asset. I am not saying we have a stock-pile of Grade A D-men, but Benning should be setting out the feelers to see what his returns could be. |
