Once we get in, anything can and usually happens - cabin
Not really? Im referring more to teams that make the playoffs one year based on a complete fluke (calgary, toronto, ottawa) and buy into the fact that there team is set. That's what sets teams back years. |

While I certainly appreciate all that Gionta has done the last 3 years, I think we would be better served to find a spot on the roster for Justin Bailey or Nick Baptiste and believe me, I told anyone who would listen that Gionta would be the perfect guy to bring in to Captain us through the rebuild at least a half a year before we signed him. I would not be mad if they resign him, I just think younger players should start making their presence felt in the lineup. - macman9
I would not be shocked to see him traded at the deadline and then sign back here at a lower rate in the summer. |

Kuli, Franson, Gio and McCormick are all gone and off the books next year. Perhaps Gio would be back, but I would suspect it would be for considerably less $$$.
Cap Central on the Buzz has us 4m under (not sure if we're closer to the cap due to callups), take that: add in 3.325 for Frans, 4.33 for Kuli and 4.25 for Gio and 1.5 for McCormick we would have 17M roughly to play with.
Lehner gets a couple more mil (down to 15), but Larsson, Foligno and Zemgus should all make right around what they're making now with small raises. Even if they all get an extra million dollars a piece, we would have around 12M to my count (two Okposo's). We need to save some for Jack and Samson in two years but Expansion should up the cap as is and Gorges will go by then for 3.9 more.
Are we that bad off? |

In response to 8 contracts left:
Signing Peterson and Borgen after the college season would take up 2 of those rather nicely. |

oh please if this team made the playoffs we'd be talking about how moulson was an under the radar signing.
Cabin made a point about getting there right now and all i said was sometimes its best if that doesnt happen right away. Sometimes teams get in thanks to lucky stretches and it tends to convince people that things that were once flawed with the team aren't as bad as they seem when in fact it is that bad, like in the case of the leafs or the flames or sens(numerous times for them really). |

yea there's that too, id be surprised if Borgen signed this year. Not that he hasn't been playing well just seems a year early. |

Please if this tame made the playoffs we could count on all kinds of negative posts. In fact, no matter what happens we can expect all kinds of negative posts. |

I agree Baptiste and Bailey should be with the big club next year but if you're going to put them in the bottom six there are others -DeLo and Moulson - whose spot I would give them before Gionta's |

Schultzie!!
I'm trying out the steak on a cast iron pan in the oven technique.
Do I have this right?
Let steak stand for 30 minutes to come to room temp
Season with salt and pepper (more than you think I seem to recall)
Heat oven to 400 degrees
Put pan in oven for 20 minutes
Remove pan, place steak in pan return to oven
Seer for 1 minute on each side
Continue to cook for 2 more minutes
Remove, let steak stand for 10 minutes with butter on it
Close?? |

No matter if we make it in or not . There would still be negatives left and right. Too many critics compared to people who know how to enjoy anything . |

Yup there will be many people saying we ruined a chance at another top 3 pick just for a one and done...
Whatever I would love to see them back in the playoffs |

i don't view it that way. I just dont want to be a one and done playoff team. As in make it one year and then fall to 26th the next. If that means one more top 3 pick to ensure say 4 or 5 straight years of playoffs would you not take that? id certainly be willing to wait one year for that. |

I would personally be happy that the team met the front offices stated goal.
As much as i dont like Bylsma's system, injuries did some damage this season and we're currently not that far out of a wildcard spot.
I have no interest coming on here and arguing with people on what we "could have done" with draft pics or trades (not you) but i do like talking about where we're at vs. the stated goals.
If we were 100% healthy from game 1, i would be complaining.
I dont like where we're at per se, but i dont think Murray planned to sign players intending for them to be injured for long periods of time.

Im tired of picks and prospects. I want to see the current team progress.
The playoffs are progression.
No one said we were going to win the cup this year.
The young players on this team need to experience the NHL playoffs, not get patted on the back and be told "hey! At least we got a #3 overall, may be he'll help out someday..."

If they move some of the fat of this team off this team gets better by elimination.
A playoff team this year should be a playoff team next year, they aren't losing anyone of importance.

I dont disagree with that im just saying in a scenario where you have to choose between making it right now and potentially nosediving next year vs missing out now and making it 4 straight times is that not an easy choice?
I understand your point on picks/prospects but im not talking about some grigorenko pick at 3rd overall you're more than likely getting someone who is a) going to make an impact soon b) going to be pretty good for a while. |

It's not about losing anyone its about overvaluing whats already here, thats what went wrong with Toronto and Calgary. A flukey year led everyone to believe that certain players once deemed overpaid were suddenly key pieces moving forward and so when they tried to build on that and those guys regressed they came crashing down. I just don't want to see that happen. |
