Disagree. For what they bring in overall benefit to this team, measured against the currency they are likely to exchange in the open market, you dangle ENNIS.

He's had a good career here, but he doesn't really fit going forward.

- Der Kaiser

That's probably a good move if you can get something good in return. The best trade scenarios are to dangle Ennis, Larsson or Girgs for a D man, or one of those players with the stipulation that the other team has to take Moulson.

A buyout this summer will cost $2.8 Mil in '17-'18, and $3.8 in '18-19. I still think it should be done if there aren't any takers for him

"Nylander, Eichel, Okposo
Baptiste, Ror, Bailey
Kane or Foligno, Reinhart, Gionta
Carrier, Girgens, Fasching"

- homiedclown

I don't see the value in cutting Ennis and Larsson in favor of a 39 year-old Gionta unless those pieces get you a good Dman. Moving Moulson is easier said than done, Especially when considering the buyout hit is $3.8 in two years, when Jack will be in the first year of his new deal. I still think Gio is the odd man out next year in order to see some young guys

I never really thought about it, but it makes sense. Given that, which one do you think is the better one to keep?

Personally, I feel like Girgs has more offensive upside and better speed. But at the same time, Larsson is a total pest out there.

- HonkFortheGoose

The solution seems simple.

Let Larsson anchor the 4th line C and actually trust the 4th line to play more than 6-8 minutes.

Rolling 4 lines with a team that is 4, and perhaps even 5 centers deep, is the key to going far in the playoffs.

gionta, is playing as well as any 3rd line player in the nhl

if he wants back, you bring him back on a 1 year deal

if you move reinhart to the dot, that frees up a top 6 slot and a 4th line slot for the 3 kids, fasching, bailey, baptiste

baptiste IMO need to probably play with reinhart or eichel

bailey IMO is probably more suited to play with ror

fasching, an incomplete in my book right now

- homiedclown

I agree with bringing Gionta back, but on the 4th line with Girgs/Larson and Carrier.
Trade one of Girgs/Larson+ for a RW sniper. (Girgs is upping his trade value slowly)
Nylander fits in top 6 on the left
Reino goes on the dot for 3rd line with Bailey and Baptiste.
Trade Kane+ for a #2 D.

depending on how Kuli plays out now that he's healed up more..maybe you keep him?

Ennis ROR okposo
Nylander Eichel sniper-RW
Baptiste Reino Bailey
Carrier Larson Gio

You know who'se been conspicuously absent these last few Sabres wins.....

I think he is still on his way home from his march in Washington.

And the Sabres are undefeated since Trump became president.

Disagree slightly as you have potential bargain signings in Vrbata, Eaves, and Gagne who will be available.

That said, I prefer bringing up the young players they have.

Fedun seems like a mandatory resign for the bottom pairing.

Agreed on both. I just thought it was impressive the way the team played so well despite a less than stellar night from risto.

For me it comes down to 2 things. First one is as you said its way harder to find those D-men. The other thing is im convinced as long as the winger has some sort of finishing ability and speed (think hagelin-like) Eichel will make that winger look pretty good. I.e you may be able to get 25-30 goal production out of a 20 goal guy (and get him at a 20 goal price tag).

As much as i like risto, im not convinced he's capable of carrying a d-pair, especially if he has to do it both offensively and defensively. Id go all in there and see what you can get.

- Sabresfan-365

This.

He's a good player, but there are too many parts of his game where he struggles.

He doesn't need to be sheltered, but he needs to play with or around someone who's equal.

I've been saying it all year. Put Baptiste there. Kid's got some serious wheels.

Trade Gio for a 2nd. Moulson and that 2nd + half salary retained to Vegas for a 3rd.

Girgs and picks for good LHD

Guys, I think all the female doging, complaining and arguing we've done all boils down to one thing. Josh Georges. He is the worst. We're so much better without him.

At 22, I'll take him all day and pray he stays healthy as he continues to improve.

If we're able to turn any combination of Kane, Girgs, Larsson, Ennis, Fasching, Bailey, Baptiste, Fasching and even a first into his left handed equivalent I do it in a heartbeat.

Isn't it GREAT to look around the league and know the DET TOR game tonight means something for Buffalo? Not in terms of this year's pick?

We usually talk Muzzin but Alec Martinez would be a pretty good fit as well. High dzone start percentage and CA60 under the 50 percent mark. Basically excels where risto doesn't

Agreed, same with Leddy or Faulk.

I also would seriously consider resigning Franson for the 3rd pair. He's scoring at a good clip at even strength.

I have Leddy on my Dynasty fantasy team. I know it's not all on him, bu this +/- this year has been awful.

comes down to price tag. Fedun could fill that role pretty well at less term/money

I would venture a guess that the 65 minutes of ice time he had in back to back games over the weekend are part of why he struggled quite a bit last night.

Fedun has been a nice surprise this year. He's worked really well in that spot, and considering that we're really going to have to start being conscious of the cap, he probably should be someone that Murray looks at a bit closer over the next couple months.

Take it a step further and say that from day 1 they've some how managed to give him more ice time than they did last year. Im not even sure how that's possible but thats a great way to burn someone out

Edit: I get injuries play a part in that but even when they were healthy he was playing way too many minutes.

Here is a good look at some college players that could be signed in about a month. Looks like a few that would be worth signing.

Aston-Reese was scoring a goal per game at last check, worth looking at.

Kelleher is extreme boom/bust. If he can make it work despite his size you're getting 1st round talent for free.

I like your ideas, but I'd rather try to trade Ennis/Girgensons for a defenseman and keep Reinhart with Eichel for another year if possible. Moulson will still be here, and Kane as well IMO, so I see

Kane-O'Reilly-Okposo
Nylander-Eichel-Reinhart
Moulson-Larsson-Bailey
Foligno-Gionta-Carrier

We'll see. Bailey is the one I'm hoping keeps it up. Been on a tear since being sent down

Sounds like there's not much to lose other than money and a contract spot then.
