Add in far, far too much play along the boards every single game and I totally agree. - kingcong39
I think that in a lot of ways, the reason why I love what Jack does is because he actually manages to score goals that are of the pure skill variety. They're not these "get in front of the net and bang in the rebound" type like you see probably about 90% of the time anymore.
It just really seems like the high skill guys don't really get to utilize their abilities much of the time. It's a damn shame. |

No one's complaining.
He's a 2nd overall pick 3 years removed from his draft.
Shouldn't he be top 100 in scoring?
He's doing at the very least what he should be. Nothing more - sbroads24
He's doing MORE than.....
Corey Perry
Jonathan Toews
Aleksander Barkov
Henri Zetterberg
Gabriel Landeskog
Alex Steen
Zach Parise
Ryan Getzlaf
Jason Spezza
Anze Kopitar
Sean Couturier
Max Domi
Evgeny Kuznetsov
Matthew Tkachuk

We have to many 5-5.5 mill a year contracts tied to crap players, that's the problem with this team. - SABRES 89
Yup. Moulson has already sank bank into his comfort zone. You need a young hungry guy in his position willing to grind. |

I saw that the Sabres may be interested in Duchene. Any thoughts of sliding him over to LW on Jack's line? What would he cost? |

Way, way too much for a position that is not of dire need at the moment. |

Probably something like...
McCabe, Nylander, 1st
So it'll be quite a bit to give up
The thing is, they want back defense
Not only can we not really afford to give up McCabe (unless we bring in other top4 defense, which is hard to find)...
there's other teams out there that can offer up better than McCabe as the main defensive piece to the package
So I doubt we get him
Or Landeskog
Both good players though |

you consider trading mccabe if you can get something better at that role or position.
He's not perfect but a 2nd pair guy at 1.6 mil? that's more or less the dream in a cap world. |

Ekblad has been brutal this year
right now I say Pastrnak is the second best player, though he was not on radar for any of those players in the top 10 at the draft
Larkin took a huge step back
Arvidsson may be the steal of the draft - homiedclown
He had one good game against canada and suddenly he was better than eichel.

Sure, but this is kind of a general statement. Isn't it possible Draisaitl makes those plays too?
I like Reinhart, but the "cerebral" talk has always annoyed me. Like he's playing with a bunch of illiterate cavemen and he's reading Shakespeare on the bench.
Tons of guys make smart plays - sbroads24
To be fair, we've got a few cavemen on this team. |

Make him a 3M guy then and send him down the 90. - stashu
As cong said, the concerning part is they don't have the balls to do this. instead they'll put him in ahead of guys clearly better than him, one of whom i can only assume they like for their future top 4.
Edit: Thornton hat trick |

Having the trio of McCabe, Guhle, and Fedun as half of the defense core would be a giant help regarding the cap.
Based on that, there is no room for someone like Seidenberg unless you plan on playing both McCabe and Guhle in the top 4, which I would not do. |

And the best part is it actually makes you better!!.
Honestly if they made proper internal moves and subtractions in the summer this team is probably a lot closer. |

With the Brooklyn news, I've already seen Isles fans posting "Man, with all the uncertainty, maybe JT WILL walk in 2 years".

Couple things, the thought on Larkin and Pasternak, so they both have had / are having a solid first year in the league, but what we want is a player that will be solid for 15 years. Not saying that either can do that, but that is what we are focusing on. When you look at Eichel and advanced stats and you feel like he is just getting started, you know we have a real solid player for years to come.
Larkin has taken a step back because people are keying in on him now and he can't keep up the point totals, but Eichel is keyed in on and he can still produce. Pasternack is getting closer to be keyed in on everygame so next year we will see how much he can do.
VIKTOR ARVIDSSON was 21 when drafted, so that was a solid pick (or so it seems) but no where near the 18 year olds that are normally drafted. Again he is having a nice year this year, but having one good/great year and a few in a row is a big difference. Yes, I would take a 4th round guy that has 1-2 solid years over a guy who never plays in the league (as long as I don't overpay for the guy). |

Its like the whole league just wants to line up and do the leafs whatever favour they want, there are 29 other teams in the league.
But yeah centre of the universe. |

I agree, but McCabe will want a hefty pay raise after next season if his playing time / results keep rising. This was a "show me" contract right now.
I would say you can pay 2 D men $5m + and find interchangeable other parts, or someone like Guhle for years to come (entry contract and then his "show me" contract).
Similar with forwards, you can pay maybe 4-5 guys good money, but then need to balance out the rest with lower cost options (solid veterans that are 4th liners or entry level players) |
