Sabres are at 2.92 goals per game since Eichel's return
That's good enough to be tied with Edmonton for 8th in the league
And we have Nylander, Bailey, Baptiste, Fasching & Asplund (possibly) ready to join the NHL ranks soon
We NEED defense
I like Duchene (and Landiskog) quite a bit
But unless we make moves to bring in more defense,
That's solid & will be here long term,
We just can't be trading any away right now for another forward |

My only reasoning for McDavid setting Jack's market, is because of the potential that Eichel has.
Doughty was signed to a massive contract that took him a few years to "earn." I just see Eichel's agent using McDavid as leverage. I hope he sticks in the same light of how Toews and P. Kane were signed, but I can see it easily going the other way. - thatsapickle
Yep 2 years.
He was a Norris finalist placing 3rd his 2nd year in.....
Mother fvcker has gotten Norris votes 6 of 8 years in the league.
http://www.hockey-referen.../players/d/doughdr01.html
And this is part of why I read more and post less.
He was signed to a huge contract because well........... he earned it.
Sh!t he got Hart votes his second year in for that matter. |

I hope so, haven't seen much except WJ last year and prospects scrimmage. - sbroads24
smooth skater, smart player, decent stick work. He's not going to wow you but there's enough there that makes me believe hes got a future. Not bad for a fourth rounder. |

I'd add Fitzgerald to that list, but other than Risto and McCabe we can't say for certain that these guys will be quality or eve full-time NHLers. Best thing to do is just load up on defense in this up coming draft and let the kids develop over the next 2-4 seasons. If we pick enough guys, we're bound to find some good ones along the way. - sskkoo1
We've passed on defensemen in the 2nd round of recent drafts that I liked at the time quite a bit
In 2014,
We took Cornel & Karabacek (horrible freaking pick!) when we could've taken McKeown & Dougherty. They went in the 2nd round the next 2 picks after that stupid Karabacek pick.
Can't say it enough...
Karabacek was a terrible, terrible pick
In the 2013 second round,
we picked a couple forwards I liked... Compher & Bailey
In between,
Another stupid pick
Instead of Connor Hurley, we could've taken Steve Santini
Never understood the "Hurley would be a 1st round pick if he was in the next draft" talk... he was a reach when we took him. And his sloooooow progression is showing that

i dunno why they didnt try trading up. 3 2nd rounders and couldn't find anybody to deal? Even at a massive overpayment still would've gotten them into the first round.
Santini hasn't been overly impressive either, granted hes in the nhl and karabacek is not. Ditto Dougherty |

I also wanted us to take Mckeown too.
But, as for as bad as the Karbacek pick was, I was watching him play the other day and there is something there. There is a talent about him under the surface that I hope really breaks out at some point. As for Hurley, he was a pick because he was a college bound guy. We'd been making a lot of picks and more were on the way, so Darcy wanted college players to extend their rights past two years. I'm not saying I agree with passing up better talent for guys you could potentially hold onto longer without signing, but that was what Darcy was doing at the time. |

I agree.
Defense is now our primary area of need, specifically Risto's long-term partner.
IMO, We need to leverage Kane, a prospect, and a pick if necessary to acquire him...likely in the offseason.
Player X - Risto
McCabe - Bogo ( cause it will me a miracle to be rid of him)
Guehle - Gorges (cause it will take a miracle to be rid of him, and as a bottom pairing hopefully he doesn't kill us)
Fedun
I could see Guehle and Fedun trading on and off until Guehle settles in. |

i have a feeling we are going to have to bank on a young promising d man to be a top pairing guy in said trade.. no one is going to trade you an already top pair guy for that unless it is a high draft pick |

I'd be ok with that as well.
Also, keep in mind the expnsion draft..for teams loaded with D but who need O, if they don't make a move, conceivably they could lose that D...so grab what you can.
Our 1st rounder could be a top 7 pick. |
