Additionally, I think missing the net or having shots blocked 36 times is also a very good thing.
That way the goalie won't be able to practice on making saves and when we ht the net it may go in. - Konalover
okay, that one is funny lol |

more scrubs like Voracek, Schenn, and Couturier? I don't see how that makes us better - YuenglingJagr
I'm not trying to make the current team better |

I've just never liked the idea of a team trying to both win now and later. The Flyers are clearly trying to win later, but kinda win now too. At least with Homer we knew he wanted to win now and yesterday. - PhillySportsGuy

The signings did make sense.
But now they need to adjust. Giroux isn't going to get faster and I think they were prepared for a decline but I don't think they thought it would hit this fast and dramatically. So now they have decide, do they wait and just let it play out or do they look to try and reconfigure this in the way they moved Carter and Richards.

Thank you for your honesty - PhillySportsGuy
I think it is good that G is playing lazy and lack of effort hockey that way he can be subpar for that much longer. Then when he is traded he will have lots of energy for his new club.

We disagree. If you want to say the Flyers should consider moving players now, for future assets, I think you have a case. Going back and saying they shouldn't have signed who they did, when they did, is utter nonsense. |

There is also the possibility that Simmonds continues to produce in the 30 goal 60 point range until 2018. That can happen you know. In that case they could get far more than a mid first rounder, maybe. That's a statement that is speculative. - MJL
In the summer of 2018, he'll be 1 year from free agency and 30 years old |

He could also set new career highs in goals and points while becoming a more versatile player. If someone offers the moon for him I'm sure Hextall will be listening but now is not the time to be actively shopping him. - Baxter27
If you're unwilling to move any of the good players on the team and unwilling to tank, then you can't be upset if the Flyers never find an elite forward when the defensemen are developed. |

You think Konecny can be the best forward on a cup winning team? |

He could be one of the best forwards on a Cup winning team. He's already leading the team in 5 on 5 scoring as a teenager.
When Giroux was a teenager he was still in Junior. |

Giroux as a captain is not working IMO. He turns the puck over a lot more frequently than previously in his career. He used to be the thorn in the side of the opponent forcing turnovers. Seems the roles have reversed thanks to a lost step and all of the wear and tear of playing in this league as an undersized player. I really don't see his career every getting back to when he was a 90 point player. Only 5 more years of declining production and rudderless leadership at 8.275M/year. - Pixote Andolini
So negative I think it is great that he plays with no urgency or jam.
This way he saves himself to play well into his late 30's.

It is pretty clear you are stating, which you have in the past, that they should've optimized tanking. While it is clearly the best way to acquire high end talent, I do not think it is the only way, and quite honestly, with the way things are going I am pretty happy they didnt. It will be pretty sweet to see how they are once all the defensemen are up. - YuenglingJagr
Not saying they needed to tank Leafs style. I would have preferred they bottomed out a bit though.
Until the NHL abolishes the draft, tanking will always be the most efficient way to build a Stanley Cup caliber team. |

We bottomed out enough in 14-15 to get a #1 dman. He could be the 3rd best player from that draft. |

Yep.
Hit the bottom and build for a few years to give yourself a really competitive team for at least a few years, or become the Ottawa Senators. - BINGO!
It would be great if we missed the playoffs for like 5 years.
That way we can all have long summers with sunflowers and dandelions.

He'll be a good forward but you usually need a top flight center to win. Name me a team that won a cup without a top flight center? I could be totally wrong but I think you need a center that can carry you a little. |
