When they were winning championships he was, though.
The "all around player" is not worth $7 million a year. He needs to be upper echelon in scoring. - buffalofan19
Were u happy with O'Reilly last year?
He's only slightly below that pace
This year... 29pts in 39games = 61pts over 82games
Last year... 60pts in 71games = 69pts over 82games
And this year he's +5 as opposed to last year's -16
Your idea of "worth" isn't accurate imo
By that definition,
Very few players who get their 2nd & 3rd contracts would live up to what u think they should produce
Take a look at the stats vs contracts for these guys this season
Corey Perry
Jonathan Toews
Henrik Zetterberg
Alex Steen
Zach Parise
Ryan Getzlaf

Me thinks that injury at the beginning of the season has been hanging around - feetontheair22
That might be the case. I'm not necessarily saying he isn't worth the money he's being paid, or that he isn't capable of scoring at a much better pace. However, if he's expected to merely be a jack of all trades but master of none, as was being implied, he's not a $7 million a year player. |

He can't be looked at as a 7 mil guy. Thats the price of being in a weak negotiating position. Thankfully the bulk of it is in his 20's |

And if any of the above were on my team, I would seriously be considering ways to get out from under their contracts, save maybe Toews, of which I think this season is an outlier.
And I will say this about O'Reilly. I wasn't dissatisfied with his performance last year, but I was expecting improvement in those numbers as this team got better. If that trend doesn't occur, then no, he won't be worth the contract they gave him. |

O'Reilly wasn't the only answer to fill that void. The Sabres voluntarily chose to go that route. He absolutely should be evaluated based on the price paid. I'm willing to give him a pass because of the injury this year. However, the notion that a lack of scoring can be dismissed because he "does other things" is a bad one. I think he will get to a satisfactory level of scoring more often than not (provided he stays healthy), but he doesn't get a pass for not doing so. |

Them not him. He's performing at about the rate he was projected to when they brought him in. They essentially signed him at FA rate, same standards as say okposo if that makes sense. |

Arguing for or against targeting him as the big player to trade for is fine, but he was going to be paid $7M per on a long term deal where ever he ended up.
Overall, it's very difficult, if not impossible, to fill a team with every player who plays to the worth of his contract.
Like all teams, you will have some that do, some that don't, and some that play at a level higher than their contract. |

Nope, he's not.
Good thing the team has one though, and maybe even a 2nd line C as well.
You pay O'Reilly that much money to hopefully play all the difficult minutes during crucial times of big games and the playoffs.
Of course, there have to be big games first, and playoff games. |

Dylan McIlrath was on waivers again
good thing we don't need to take a flier on a d man drafted in the top 10
I swear Murray's arrogance holds this team back a bit |

I think your expectations are unrealistic in today's NHL
O'Reilly is a good player
7mil is what they cost
Would u rather have Grigorenko, Zadorov & Compher back?
Should we have not re-signed O'Reilly?
Do u want to trade him?
Idk what you're point is |
