I'm on the record for not loving the Kane trade, he's a good player, but I hated bringing him in with all of his off ice issues.

But, although lots of people here complained about him and wanted him gone, his value was at a all time low at the time, so we couldn't trade him. Now that he's playing well his value is at a high and nobody wants him gone. BUT NOW IS THE TIME TO TRADE KANE!!!

Teams are looking to buy guys like Kane for the playoffs, so they'll overpay. And we don't even know if he's going to ditch us next year when his contact is up. We also have Bailey, Bap, and Fashing who play similar games, big, fast, not afraid to grind, and will be NHLers soon.

If Kane can get us 75% of the way to a legit #2 defenseman than we should send him packing now while we can max out his return.

- sskkoo1

Think about this a little more carefully: a team is going to trade for Kane to help with their playoff push, and give us back a top 2 defender DURING A PLAYOFF push??

Never happen.

I would pass on a second round pick for Foligno. You hope a second rounder develops into a player like Foligno, we shouldn't give him up and start all over on a gamble. He's a good bottom six guy who is a good teammate and loves this city. I know we would never get a 1st for him ( 20-30 range), but at his price that's what I would want.
- sskkoo1

I think a fair value for him is a second round pick which would be great for us
Could use that for the draft or use that pick in a package for defenseman

You could be right some teams do over pay at the trade deadline for his type of play I wouldn't be surprised if he got a first-round pick

And with the way Kanes been playing I'm expecting a first round pick for him

Tim Murray's probably going to look for picks , prospects for Kane IMO

Then use that ammo for defenseman in the summer with other picks he acquires

If that happens I'll be kind of irritated because we passed on players for him because we said he was safe ( I would also like to know those players lol )
- GERBE!!!75PTS

I was just saying he won't be another "Mancari" for us
He's definitely an NHL player, no doubt
And with the scoring talent he's shown, I think it's probably safe to say he's a top9 forward
Just a matter of how good a scorer he can be

I don't remember anyone going between Bailey & Baptiste (who we got in the 3rd) that I was upset we passed on
Although Buchnevich & Duclaire went later in the 3rd I think

The pick in that draft I hated was stupid Connor Hurley over Santini
No clue why we went with another forward when there was a quality defenseman available to us

A team not buying Kane as a rental. A team defense heavy but could use a scoring winger. Anaheim maybe. Philly? A late push by Carolina?

Good point
More of an offseason type move to a team that can't protect all their Dmen

My prediction he goes to the Ducks for a first , Shea Theodore

He's playing great don't get me wrong but people in Buffalo fall in love with players that are a dime a dozen IMO I would also be fine keeping him depending on the contract price

But if a team offered us a second round pick or something of that nature how could you pass?

- GERBE!!!75PTS

Im not trading Foligno for a draft pick unless it's a 1st
And if he's got that much value,
Then use him as part of a package to get a good defenseman

I don't have very much hope for a first I hope I'm wrong but last year I thought Jamie mcginn was going to get a second round pick at least that didn't happen

We'll never get that defenseman without giving up something good. Carrier seems pretty physical, though. If he could start putting the puck in the net, he may also become a Kane-like player.
- sskkoo1

Id agree with that about Carrier
I actually think he's the guy Vegas takes from us

As far as what to give up to get a defenseman...
Fasching is the top prospect I would rather move
I like Bailey, Nylander & Baptiste better

Yeah, I agree
Which is why I'm not trading Foligno

Getting back a late 2nd for him isn't enough
He's proving to be a solid NHL player
There's a good chance that whoever we pick with a late 2nd won't ever even make the NHL

That is true but I was thinking more towards of using the pick in the summer in a package to acquire a defenseman

That be pretty awesome if he can lend us a first I think the Kings would be perfect for him IMO
But maybe Buffalo does him a favor and sends him to Columbus

Tough to say
Before this season, you'd have said Fasching had the most value
He's been hurt though
I'd bet anyone that was high on Fasching last year,
is still high on him now
I don't think the injury will change that

I'd look at a team like Carolina.

Faulk
Hanifin
Fleury
Bean

We already have a couple 2nds & I think a couple 3rds as well

Plus you'd assume that Franson & Gionta get traded
Possibly Kulikov & maybe even Gorges as well
Faulk & Fedun are UFA as well

So we should have a good amount of picks to package
Foligno for a late 2nd isn't enough for me

I'd guess Faulk & Hanifin would be tough to get,
And cost a lot

What about Fasching for Bean?
Or another team's good young defenseman prospect?

Out of the 4 I think Fleury would be the easiest to land.

Yeah, probably right
I think they have McKeown too

If we can't land a top pair guy...
I think I'd like us to trade some of our forward prospect depth,
To a team with defensive prospect depth

Things should be very interesting with the expansion draft though

Do u know when teams have to say who they're protecting?
Apparently Vegas can start making deals at the deadline

Bailey is producing at almost a 40 goal rate in the AHL. Baptiste has 3 goals in his last 20. Bailey needs an actual chance to produce.
