Not in a loaded draft either though. That's the difference.
Pierre McGuire "Colin White will be Ottawa's Patrice Bergeron"
I'm sorry, even if there is a 10% chance of that actually being the case, I'd rather have that than a goalie.
Goaltending is a problem for like 2 or 3 teams a year. And hasn't been our issue in forever. - sbroads24
McGuire has a tendency to exaggerate...I remember him calling dougie Hamilton the next larry robinson...
not taking away anything from white's potential, but there's a reason McGuire's doing what he's doing and is not in any front office |

PM isnt the best source here but white looks legit. A lot of the players taken in that range from that year do. |

That's true, but there was a lot of talent there at that spot.
Besides the rebound issue, I don't have a problem whatsoever with Lehner, I think he's a fine starter, but you can find guys that are pretty good In a lot of places - sbroads24
the big thing for murray is that he had the opportunity to watch lehner develop from the time they drafted him....imo, that's a big plus...
that said, he's had his issues, but like you said, he's a fine starter |

Comparing ages, to keep pace with Bergeron, White will need 73 points in 81 games next year |

How much better would this D look with Doug Hamilton on it ??
(There's no way I'm ever calling another man "Dougie"). |

I think Lehner is probably this teams long term starter if he keeps this level of play + stays healthy. Both can happen, both also "if's" too.
I usually never, ever am worried about goaltending |

goaltending is important...e.g. the canadiens last year without price, tampa with a sub-par bishop...the stars...and as bob goes in c-bus, so do the jackets |

Only if we are the only team claiming him.
Also, that resets our order to be last for waiver claims, something i feel Murray was waiting to around trade deadline to use, when a trade happens and I team waivers a "better" player. Will see what happens. - Lilroot9
Pretty sure that doesn't exist and order resets every day based on standings |

So goaltending in the regular season can be found almost anywhere, but come playoff time, you need a strong goalie, or a sub par goalie having his career year.
So having your goalie be whomever, they need to basically have their career year to win a cup and there next year find another guy having his best year?
We want to build a cup contender for years, then you need to find a solid goalie. Lehner may not be the one, but it is a good thing to have.

Goalie is the most important position on the ice
Idk why ppl act like it's no biggie |

It might be important, but it's usually a result of the team in front of the goalies play, and it's the hardest position to predict. |

Well John Vogl thinks different.

Doesn't mean he's right...
I just looked through the whole of Article 13 in the CBA which covers Waivers and there's no mention of teams falling into any waiver claim spot other than dependant on standings. |

I think that's true if u have an average goalie
If u have a Price, Lundqvist, etc...
that obviously makes a big difference
And when it comes to all those average goalies...
you've gotta hope they get really hot if u wanna go deep into the playoffs
Or u have to have a VERY good team in front of him |

Agreed, they have to be really good to win a cup, but so does everyone on the team too.

I'm pretty sure that you're correct
It goes by the standings on the date the player is put on waivers
Except early in the season it goes by last year's records
Not sure for how long that lasts though |

so...the last place avalanche could conceivably pick up player x today, and tomorrow put a claim in on player y and get him no matter who else puts a claim in because they're still in last place? |

I've seen good teams get beat early bc of crappy goaltending
And teams that are just decent go far bc of a hot goalie
Unless you're scoring 4-5goals in the playoffs,
You usually win & lose based on goalie play above the other stuff
Imo anyways |

Yep, it's the "benefit" of being the worst team in the league - picking up other teams' junk |

Correct
But they'd also have to expose players to waivers themselves to make room |
