"not unexpected because LA is a stingy team in terms of yielding time and space to make plays"

That makes no sense because you know the Kings are "defensive Juggernauts" as per Team Negative because the Kings are getting owned by the best team in the league.

- opeth_pa

You mean the West coast team playing the second of back to back morning games against the best team in the league after playing a tough, physically demanding game the day before.
I would love to see the sarcastic comments if the flyers played them today. " No excuse not to take it to a team from the Westcoast.....blah blah blah....please kill yourselves d-bags

Yeah at some point Hextall is gonna have to take a chance imo.. If the big defense prospects pan out, recent history trade wise should go well for them. I don't expect a hall for Larsson trade but even a Johansen for Jones would suit them well. Gotta get there first.

I'm gonna be irate if ghost and TK sit again tomorrow. For the life of me, I don't get how it's acceptable to disrupt both power play units on a team that relies so heavily on the pp. But vdv and PEB have their spots in the lineup up written in pen every night because they're staples on our poop pk.

See, the entire point of assembling this army of d-men is to have the best d group in the league. I kind of don't want to trade any of them if they do pan out, unless it becomes necessary for cost reasons, and of course the player we would feel comfortable trading would probably be the worst of the group, right? I'd rather explore acquiring a top 10 pick in the immediate future, maybe a quality prospect too.

I keep going back to Schenn and Simmonds for the obvious. I can't imagine a future where Schenn is here beyond his current contract anyway. It eats up his prime, doesn't look like he is considered a true core player, and he's probably the most replaceable player, maybe even with Lindblom next year. I think if they even just stuck Couturier in his PP role, he could probably do it ok enough (Schenn's #s this year are not close to sustainable...talking about career norm). And the 5v5 scoring and play is average at best over his career, so that's definitely replaceable. Is it impossible to see Schenn+traded for a top 10 pick and a quality prospect, if Hextall actually pursued it? Would be selling high.

Of course the real crown jewel who would net another Richards/Carter trade is Simmonds. No one wants to see him go, but he's signed to 31, and then his well-earned big contract will be up for grabs. I don't think he can't still be a good support player after that and his game will hold up better than some think, and we all love him and want him to stay, but it's business and it would be a big risk. I'd rather Trayden of course. But everything is risky in building a great team.

I just finished watching a dvr copy of the game from yesterday. That OT effort from Weise was unexcusable. Disgusting. I can't stand this guy anymore.

all things considered, what do you realistically consider as a plausible return for brayden schenn?

I'd be happy with a 1st straight up. Otherwise package him with our 1st and try to get into the top 10 on draft day.

Schenn is the weirdest case. I still don't know what his position is. My guess is RW, I think he looked the best there

More on Manning IMO. These guys really make it look more complicated than it is. Stick to your (frank)ing guy like glue and don't worry about anything else. If their other player gets a free in on the goalie those are the breaks and its on the guy defending him. At the very worst its a shootout scenario which your going to go to anyway. Carter being wide open like that should never happen

What other team in the NHL would have players like Wiese and Manning on the ice during OT? That is (frank)ing pathetic.

Makes you wonder how in gods name they're in a playoff spot with this roster...and with Giroux resembling a 2013 version of scott gomez

For sure. I disagree with a lot of Hakstols lineup decisions, but then again you have to give him credit for having the team in a playoff spot with a roster with a ton of holes

That's not good value. The going rate for a 55-60 point winger, in his prime and with term, is not a mid-low 1st in a crummy draft. And Schenn+our 1st to move up 5-7 spots. Yikes.

Low top 10 pick+A-/B+ prospect for Schenn+2nd/3rd perhaps. Doesn't even have to be this year if the scouting department isn't enthused with anyone in that range (like Necas); there's no rush save for getting the future in order sooner, and I still don't know if Hexy thinks this forward group is indeed his Cup "core" to supplement and build around. That wouldn't be ideal. Hextall is just very safe and patient. Which is great in general, but it takes a lot of risk to do stuff like this and create a more uncertain but potentially better future......and he has yet to show that side of him.

When it comes to the Flyers at this very moment, I'm not happy with the coaching and I have been for some time. At the same time, this team for a huge leap forward, which is on Hextall. When it comes to the draft and signing developing youth, Hextall cannot seem to miss. With this said, I'm not expecting much from this season but this coming off season, it's time to take massive steps forward. Especially with a number contracts coming off the books. Within the next eight to nine months, we just might need a major trade.
