It is funny that out of all the actual real problems this team has it always comes back to Vandevelde. The guy plays less then 10 minutes a game.
My worry is Giroux has basically fallen of a cliff and that is a huge hole moving forward to fill. Our top line center has seemed to just regressed all in one season. |

VandeVelde is having sex with Giroux's wife. It's all his fault.
Edit: By sex, I mean afternoon tea. |

Exactly. He's played well, but playing well is relative to one's ability. Everyone, including Hakstol and Hextall know that they are overplaying MacDonald. - MJL
I agree. Gudas is being used to carry his own pairing, MDZ has been injured, inconsistent, and can't play the right side. Provy-Streit leaked goals like a sieve. So they put MacDonald with Provrov rather than putting Schultz or Manning with him. |

Hakstol called MacDonald a top 3 NHL defenseman, and that the team needs his ability to get out of his own end more than Ghost's offense. - Mononoke
I'm shocked people on twitter distorted what was actually said.
“I’m not comparing the two; I don’t think there is a comparison to be made. Mac has played extremely well this year, he’s played in a legitimate top three or four role all year and he’s earned that from day one of camp. He is an efficient player, I don’t care what social media says. I watch it, I study it. I know exactly what he does; he’s doing a good job. He and Ghost are different players, no question, they have different roles. So I won’t even compare the two in that regard. Ghost is out of the lineup for good reasons…”
“Like?” asked the fan.
“Oh, I’m not going to get into individual things here,” Hakstol replied, before diving into some complimentary and then philosophical remarks about Gostisbehere. “The young man has so much good ability. To become a well-rounded player is very difficult in this league. It’s easy to brush over some of the difficult areas of the game that sometimes aren’t performed really efficiently. You can’t be a one-way player in this league, and Ghost is not. Ghost can be a very good two-way defenseman with some outstanding offensive ability.”
This is the coach calling a player who plays 17 ES minutes a game a 2nd pairing defenseman, and positively gushing about the potential of Ghost. And yet it's supposed to be terrible and controversial, like Hakstol committed the next Bowling Green Massacre. |

This must be the expansion draft signing Hextall was alluding to in the STH meeting last night to protect Stolarz. |

As an organization, the Flyers reveal nothing about their players, their strategy or their plans, so when they make questionable decisions, they're going to be heavily scrutinized.
At least we now know Hak pays no attention to possession numbers |

No, we now know he pays no attention to the numbers fans pay attention to, and for good reason. |

There's more:
“It’s a tough transition to this league. Last year, everything went pretty well for him, especially offensively. This year, things haven’t come as easily for him offensively, I think that’s apparent to everybody. For him to sure up some of the areas of the game that are going to make him an outstanding defenseman in this league for years to come, not just today but for years to come and be what the Philadelphia Flyers need as we become a top contending team, these are very important growth steps that he’s taking right now. Everybody looks at just coming out of the lineup for a game or two but he’s been out now and had an opportunity for four or five days to have some great work days, I don’t know if you ever thought about it that way.”
Hakstol wrapped up his bit on Ghost with a vote of confidence in the kid’s past and future while rationalizing his present situation.
“He’s been a huge part of what we’ve done and he’s going to be an even bigger part of what we do in the future, but there’s steps that he needs to take as a young player to be able to grow.” |
