"What, Chris VandeVelde's numbers are that bad, too??? No, you must be...wow, I had no idea. Hexy, what the (frank) dude? Why are you giving me this poop-studded roster? Can we please get these (frank)ers out of here on a rocket to the sun tomorrow I mean, come on dude, what the (frank)!?" - jmatchett383
Now that Hakstol has been properly informed by the more qualified fan base, MacDonald and Vandevelde will be scratched.
As far as the fan giving corsi numbers to Hakstol, I didnt know that Mononoke was a STH. |

Fans know naught. An organization that screams success since the 'new NHL' knows better than all of us peons. |

My favorite quotable from last night was when a person actually read aloud all of Mac's advanced stats over the last 2 seasons to ask Hakstol about the disconnect and how the team was worse on the ice with him, and Hakstol said paraphrasing: "Throw those numbers out the window. I'll take him on my team any day." - Mononoke
I wonder if they skipped the advanced stats showing MacDonald has the best GF% of any regular Flyers dman over the past three seasons, even though he only has the 4th best on ice SV%. |

I believe he said you can throw Corsi out the window which makes sense considering this team isn't really having trouble generating or sustaining shots on net. It's the break downs and lack of prime scoring chances that is killing them. |

Interestingly, VdV has the worst GF% of any regular Flyers forward over the past three years. And yet him and MacDonald are commonly equated by fans. |

that almost suggests that there is something other than numbers on a spreadsheet that makes people hate them |

This particular discussion started with a fan reading out numbers off a spreadsheet to justify their hatred.
Certain fans will also tell you Couturier can't be the 2C even though the team scores more goals with him on the ice at 5 on 5 than any other forward over the past three years. |

If MacDonald was playing a 4/5/6 role on a contract of $3M for 2 years, I wouldn't mind him as much. He's been playing top-pair minutes and doing as well as could be expected, but on a top team, he'd be slotted further down. Also, it will be almost impossible for him to live up to his contract, which isn't entirely his fault. He does back in too far too often for my liking on the rush, but he's fine as an in-zone defender and has adequate skill in the offensive zone. |

I just don't think it's rational to equate two players at the very opposite ends of the spectrum of an important stat measured over a long period of time. It's not like VdV gets difficult minutes that would explain why the team gets outscored so heavily when he's out there. |

For me, it has little to do with the spread sheet and more with just assessing their play on the ice. The issue with MacDonald has more to do with his deployment and contract. Given a smaller role (on a deeper blueline) and a less expensive/shorter contract, I have no issue with him. The day he signed that extension (more on Homer than him), he doomed himself to be media prey. VandeVelde, on the other hand, just does not have the skill to an NHL regular on a decent team, yet is immune from being scratched, which is infuriating. |

By the way, does anyone on here know who the fat dude who fell into the box and got beat up by Tie Domi is? A number of people on here are/were STHs and knew other ones, thought someone might have sat near him (or maybe one of us was him). |

Considering Read has been scratched while leading the team in this so called GF%, and CVV not once scratched while having the worst (and not just this year), I think they don't look at that advanced stat either. |

It would help to know why Read was scratched. Having all the information, leads to a more informed opinion. Unfortunately, as fans we're not frequently given that, so it leads to speculation. |
