I'm saying if we keep him next year we're not going to be able to trade him because we're going to be in the playoff hunt correct?

Therefore we would have to sign him in free agency

- GERBE!!!75PTS

The 2 aren't mutually exclusive. They can sign him before next season, they can sign him in season, or they can sign him before FA starts. The only way he goes to UFA is if he wants to.

The loudest I've ever heard the building was a viewing party during the playoffs lo, all those years ago. And it was only the 100's filled, and even then it wasn't totally filled, it was like 90%. We were playing the Flyers I believe, it was a really good game, and I've never heard the building that loud before. And the 2nd loudest was the Ottawa brawl game. That game wasn't even close to how loud the viewing party was. I couldn't hear myself think as the saying goes.
- Wetbandit1

The loudest I heard the building was when Jonathan Toews scored lol

I wish I was there for the Ottawa brawl that would have been something else to see in person

or he can just pull a Drury and just pretend to be interested and then just Test free agency

I really think they should set a deadline for themselves so they don't screw themselves

For as excellent as Kane has been, he's bound to cool off, he's shooting at a higher % than he has over the last 5 years.

Going to need some other depth to come up with some goals, or heaven forbid anyone on defense scores.

- sbroads24

He seems to be taking better shots lately. He doesn't seem to be peppering every shot he can get. And he's playing well, that's going to bring up your SH%.

Honestly it's probably time. All of this drama for the last ten years has been ridiculous. Either sign a bulletproof 1000 year lease in Arizona or leave

One thing about our 3rd line is that its a collection of spare parts. once it's "Built," it will be a different story.
Kind of the same old "dead weight arguement..."
Would be nice to see two kids from Rochester and a "veteranish" center who might still have some legs.
Or if we resign Gionta, him, Zemgus and a kid from Rochester next year?

Oshie is going to want too much money, and he's 30 already. Do you want a 36 year old Oshie making $6M? And let's not rely on cap increases. It already looks like a flat cap for next year.

Can you imagine if Gionta was making that? lol Gionta actually has a 40 goal season under his belt.

Edit: Oshie is shooting 21.7% this year. That's flat out unsustainable.

That would be nice, but methinks you subtract Oshie, move up Bailey/Baptiste and put Moulson back in there.

It's tough, but Moulson is here to stay.

Yeah he'll get 5-6M from someone, but it would all be about the duration (which he'll want 4-5 years at least).

Side note: I thought the general consensus was that the expansion draft would raise the cap...was that just nonsense?

Everything I've read is flat cap. The expansion fee is not HRR.

Not sure if that helps or hurts us really, but was hoping to have some more wiggle room en route. Thanks for the info WB.

I think he's gone. Waive him and take the 4.5 against the cap, or trade him and a second to the coyotes for a fourth and retain 2.5 in salary. He's too slow to compete in this division. And yeah, oshie is probably gonna get a ludicrous contract from someone. That's just somewhat of a hopeful roster for me

NP, the PA could always use the escalator too, but I'm not sure if that's already being counted or not. I wouldn't think so, because it's hard to see a 5% contraction.

And other business: I'm not sure if it was said the other day, but the Sabres are still number 1 in local TV ratings this year. They had a slight decline but are still ahead of the Pens.
