No they are not the same. Your scenario and a droid team are fantasy.

Trades and the draft will happen. We speculate on what will or should happen.

- RealityChecker

Speculation to the "what we should do" talk is all theoretical based on opinions. It has no impact on reality. You added the droid team to be facetious. The scenario is just made up fun on a different tangent. Just an attempt to talking about the same things in a different way.

For a rebuilding team with a GM purportedly to be a good drafter, yes it is valuable.

You ask for more but a 2nd is worth the trade if that's all that the market dictates.

I agree the TDL will fetch the best returns.
As for previous regimes idc about them when its ancient history lol
Differnt ppl now do different things.
Hansen fetches a good prospect projected higher than a mid to late 2nd.

So if the best offer on deadline day is a 2nd round pick, by someone like Ottawa in say the 50 OA range, is that still a panic move?

The exact same circumstances apply, in fact we need to make a move even more than last year.

I'd say it's a good move. Then draft Conor Timmins (might need to move up a handful of spots?

Not so sure.

Stetcher has probably the weakest shot on the entire team and that's saying alot considering Tanev and the twins.

He's a great skater, has an intense motor and overcomes his size with solid positional play.

That said, his career will live and die with his ability to generate offense.
I think Stetcher will always remain a sweet complimentary piece to put on the PP and to chase leads where-as Hutton has the potential to actually become a consistent top 4 guy.

Either way, i like both and am happy to have them.

- Whiskey-Tango

For sure just from what I've seen so far Stecher has the upside over Hutton just by a bit. Better skater and defender and I'm not sure who you are watching shoot from the point but Stechers wrist shot from the point is better than most of our team's slap shot...which isn't saying much but the kid does have a great shot. Not like Tanev who has been seeing shooting coaches in the offseasons and still can't wrist shoot more than 40mph.

Sure Stech isn't as well rounded as some but he will know his role. To me right now he looks to be a better PP guy and defender than Hutton. For now.

If u believe Hansen MUST be moved asap then yes a panic move.
As for me i think he fetches more so no & i see a bigger return if a package is needed so be it. Keeping Hansen & use the offseason to make moves is plan B.

As numerous people have pointed out, his value will be much higher at the TDL than in off-season, he will be worth less than a 2nd because teams will see us trading from weak position due to the fact we might lose him for nothing. A 2nd isn't a "panic move" it's getting value for an aging/declining player that needs to be traded prior to expansion. He might be worth more in a package, but no point in holding out for a deal that isn't there.

Kris Russel to Dallas was a flop.
Nill couldn't do worse if he was serious getting Hammer instead last year.
The facts most ignore was Hammer was asked late to waive his NTC as we were in a different situation PO race wise. This year we all know we should be sellers & forget about PO dreams that r not happening.

You're an avid and fast reader. Had accidentally put up a version of this and took it down in minutes. But the radical nature of the topic must have stayed with you. Let's carry on with the bashing of views on who should get traded and for what.

The circumstances are same: the need to stockpile draft picks and trade away older roster players while they have value.

new circumstance: expansion draft, we may lose said player for nothing.

you're right it's different. not at all in the way you are implying.

What offseason? The expansion draft is June 21st and last season Game 6 of the finals was June 12.

The offseason is where teams are optimistic of their youth, the draft and free agency, so rather than pay a big price for Hansen, they will wait to see how those play out rather than help Vancouver out. Not to mention, everyone else will be cautious of contracts they add and potentially lose, who has a protection spot for Hansen prior to the draft?

I am one of those saying the TDL is the best time to trade Hansen.
Keeping him cuz signed for 1 more season means other moves r made.
Another TDL will come along for another opportunity.
Position of weakness hardly. U say declining when a Ladd gets a 1st & flops.
Teams make many moves for cup or PO runs.

To me he's worth a second round pick, maybe a project prospect or another low round pick thrown in. He had a career year at 30 and just had a season of shoulder and knee injuries, no one will trade for him thinking he will play top 6

Yeah Hansen's not really a draft day trade kind of player. That's more for guys like Tanev.
